Soros: Not Much Difference Between Obama And Romney

Billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros told Reuters Global Editor-at-Large Chrystia Freeland that he still supported President Barack Obama, but predicted voters would not be very enthusiastic about the 2012 elections if former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was nominated by Republicans.

“Well, look, either you’ll have an extremist conservative, be it Gingrich or Santorum, in which case I think it will make a big difference which of the two comes in,” he said. “If it’s between Obama and Romney, there isn’t all that much difference except for the crowd that they bring with them.”

But he acknowledged that a major difference between Romney and Obama would be their potential Supreme Court nominations and their stance on taxation.

“That is the big difference, and that has led my hedge fund community to abandon Obama in favor of any Republican because they don’t like to be taxed,” Soros explained. “I personally believe that when it comes to policy, you shouldn’t be pursuing self-interest, but the public interest. And I think that the income differentials are too wide and ought to be narrowed.”

I just got very depressed listening to the Fox Sunday panel.

They have not only declared Newt dead, but have tossed dirt on his grave.

One of the things mentioned is that there’s not another debate until Feb. 22nd.

Debates have been Newt’s savior as he doesn’t have Romney money and he usually takes the debates hands down.

The spending gap between Newt and Romney is astronomical. It’s almost as if Romney can buy the presidency because he’s tired of his other hobbies.

I agree with Rod that Romney showed his colors (again) when he said the healthcare issue was not worth ‘getting mad about.’

I think it was Rush who said that he used that line to make it seem like Santorum was an angry guy, which is one way he’s been painted.

What I’m most scared of is that this primary has been so divisive that, if by some nightmare chance we get Romney, that people won’t vote for him.

Four more years of Obama would do us in.

Let’s hope Newt can win Florida and gain some momentum.

A lot of seniors are selfish. Newt should have ads with people in other countries that have socialized medicine being turned away.

Example: Met woman in hospital who flew from England because they wouldn’t approve mammograms for her even though sis & mom had breast cancer. Regulations and guidelines are insensitive things.

People have no idea what we’re in for.

Interesting! Ileana ros Lehtinen is one of the ‘Hispanics’ or Cubans (don’t recall the exact wording of the question) that Newt mentioned in the Debate that might have a place in his administration.

And I’m telling you, Brit Hume positively crosses the line of objective journalism when it comes to Newt.

He despises Newt.

I love Santorum! Everyone says ‘oh he’s a true conservative, but ...’ or ‘yeah he can be forceful and articulate in a debate but ...’

The ‘buts’ are giving me a migraine.

Great stuff TX. That's why the meme has changed to Climate change so the left can demagogue any extreme whatsoever and still blame it on man's influence. They are so invested in climate and selling pollution credits they can let it go as an issue. It's all BS.

He or anyone else against socialized medicine doesn’t even need to go to England for examples...we just have to talk to our Canadian brothers to the north.

Obvious dislike? Go back and see where I endorsed him right after Cain dropped out. Stop with the selective arguments.

Valid reasons:
1) He has no chance of winning, no money and no real network.

2) He has no experience in national politics.

3) He doesn’t articulate Conservatism well other than social Conservatism and even then does not explain why it affects fiscal Conservatism.

4) He has no real endorsements or momentum to believe he is running now for anything other than if Newt blows up.

5) He needs to endorse Newt or Newt endorse him which would be silly.

6) He Quit in Florida which says even he knows he can’t win but still doesn’t withdraw yet although will soon.

Now you have real reasons you can debate.

Pray for America

“Here seconds before Face The Nation our local affiliate just ran the Tom Brokaw Newt hit ad add once again its on constantly now.”

I’m surprised it’s still running - NBC Legal told them to remove it:

NBC, Brokaw denounce Romney ad

Via POLITICO’s Reid Epstein, NBC News and Tom Brokaw are loudly objecting to the Mitt Romney campaign’s use of footage from the 1990s in an ad blasting Newt Gingrich over his House ethics charges.

Brokaw, whose statement noted he was speaking on his behalf, said, “I am extremely uncomfortable with the extended use of my personal image in this political ad. I do no want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign.”

“The NBC Legal Department has written a letter to the campaign asking for the removal of all NBC News material from their campaign ads,” NBC News said in a statement, which added, “Similar requests have gone out to other campaigns that have inappropriately used Nightly News, Meet the Press, Today and MSNBC material.”

-- You got it he's winning with distortion lying and loads of money. NO wonder he's the candidate of the left. --

What's interesting to see so out in the open is how "left" the establishment GOP is. A pack of mendacious pricks.

Michelle Bachmann on with incontinent Bob. She refuses to comment on Romney’s credibility.

He asks her about Sarah Palins comment that this election is about the GOP establishment vs the TEA party. She is the head of the TEA party caucus and states that the TEA party is alive and well and stronger than ever.

The Donald states that US is going to hell in a handbasket and would only be able to run as an independent.

He decries the timbre of the GOP race as a nasty competition, possibly doing damage to the Republican party.

Head of the RNC on....never heard of him. (white guy)

It’s no different than what Reagan faced...even after he defeated Carter from what we now know as the Establishment Republicans.

-- What I'm most scared of is that this primary has been so divisive that, if by some nightmare chance we get Romney, that people won't vote for him. --

That outcome has less to do with the "divisive" nature of the primary (which divisiveness is primarily due to Romney's actions), and more to do with Romney's lack of good character.

I'm not scared of that outcome - in fact, I'd cheer it. If the GOP is of a mind that Romney is a good and principled standard bearer for what the GOP stands for, then I will work to drive a stake through the party. It would, in my eye, be an evil entity.
