MIAMI A steady stream of endorsements has been flowing to Mitt Romney, with his campaign promoting Republicans who are giving their blessing to his presidential candidacy. On the eve of the Florida primary, he has been unable to land the biggest catch of all: Jeb Bush.
An unspoken question hovering over the Republican presidential race here is why Mr. Bush, the states popular former governor and heir to the nations aging political dynasty, has not added his voice to the party establishments support for Mr. Romney in his increasingly bitter duel with Newt Gingrich.
It has not been for a lack of effort by Mr. Romney, who has made phone calls, traded e-mails and met privately to try to win over Mr. Bush. The campaign was poised to make him a national co-chairman, a role Mr. Bush would have shared with Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, but several Republicans familiar with the offer say it was declined.
If Dad got behind him, that would help shut the door, Jeb Bush Jr., his youngest son, said in an interview, referring to Mr. Romney. But thats just not his style.
Mr. Bush has made clear in television interviews and in conversations with friends that he is troubled by the sharpening tenor of the race.
In his conversations about an endorsement, Mr. Bush also conveyed to Mr. Romney and his allies that his double-digit defeat in the South Carolina primary did not warrant an endorsement and he needed to earn it. Yet if weekend polls showing Mr. Romney with a double-digit

His father has been a Romney backer for years now. Perhaps Jeb and G.W. figure that’s enough.
Jeb Clampett Bush does not want to commit to endorsing a candidate. After all, if this ends up at a brokered convention, who do you think the GOP establishment will run too? Jeb Clampett Bush.
Say NO to the Bushies. Period.
The Spew Dork Times describes the Bush Family as an ‘Aging Political Dynasty’. Interesting.
When has The Spew Dork Times ever described the Kennedy lot as an ‘Aging Political Dynasty’??
Not saying the Bushies are ‘all that’, but just sayin’ ....
Say NO to the Bushies. Period.
Jeb Bush likely has ambitions of his own, and no way does he want to hitch his star to the wagon of some Massachusetts liberal.
That’s a career killer right there.
And once the Florida primary is over, Jeb’s “endorsement” (whoever he endorses) will be moot. So I would say Jeb isn’t going to endorse anybody. But man, could you imagine if he comes out tomorrow and endorses Newt? The establishment-elitists’s heads would explode.
“Stayoutdabushes.” - Jesse Jackson
BS
But it does say something about the stupidity of Bush haters like you
I dont care who you are if you respect the US of A and the President invites you to a meeting you go. Period.
Also it would be nice if people would bother to read the article first before mouthing off ....It says that they the two former Presidents are withholding their support for Mitt which should be a good thing on this site ....of course the level of thought has dropped so much lately people cannot comprehend when something is good or bad anymore.
The Florida Bush is an Establishmentarian like the rest of them.
And why is he a “Florida Bush”? Did daddy raise his kids in several states outside his and his father’s home state of Connecticut?
You know the answer to that - carpet bagging!
And they are all D.C. Bushes anyway!
I dont care who you are if you respect the US of A and the President invites you to a meeting you go. Period.
That’s a stupid remark.
And I have no respect for them. Visiting that evil man is the equivalent of giving him moral support.
Plenty of people decline meetings with presidents at the White House.
Again: Stupid remark.
Oops, sorry. I didn’t know you were an 0bama lover.
But the issue is who do they endorse?
So it's OK to run to the White House even if you do not support that president or his party, and them failing to come out and endorse or support anyone in their own party is OK too?
Ya think anyone buys that?
I’ve noticed that Bush 43 has not publically commented in any way about the candidates, in spite of the fact that Laura said she was hoping Jeb Bush would run.
Dubya is staying out of this mess and I think that’s great.
1) Bush 41 endorsed Romney a few weeks ago. Only Bush 43 has not said a word about the candidates.
2) I respect the USA and the OFFICE of the President, but that does not mean that I would meet with a President when invited or told to do so if, like goalie Tim T of the Bruins, I disagreed with him and couldn’t stand to even hear him talk.
There is a huge difference between the office of President and the person who occupies it . Right now there are only 5 people on earth who are alive and who have been in the office. If you were one of them you would attend whatever you were asked to attend.
If it was otherwise there would be NO respect for anyone in the office ever...
It is similar to obeying laws you do not agree with.....If you want to be law abiding you obey them.
Yours is the stupid comment hands down
see #18 ....If you were in the military and you were told to attend a function at the WH do you think you can refuse?
Try it
I'm finding him to be a consummate professional and a class act. A textbook example of what a retired President should be and do, unlike the two asshats Clinton and Carter, whose actions have been appalling and self aggrandizing. In the Army, we called them "spotlight Rangers".
