BEIJING (Reuters) - The Tibetan government-in-exile has colluded with Western governments to distort a recent string of police shootings in Tibetan areas of China in a bid to discredit the government, an official Chinese newspaper said Monday.

Protests by ethnic Tibetans, who accuse Chinese authorities of stifling their traditions and religious freedoms, have gathered pace in the mountainous frontiers of southwestern Sichuan province that border on Tibet proper since last Monday.

"Protests by ethnic Tibetans, who accuse Chinese authorities of stifling their traditions and religious freedoms,..."

That's right, it's just an accusation. China would never interfere in a person's religious practice or 'freedom'. lol

How dare anyone wany to "tarnish" the freedom-loving, benevolent Chinese gov't.

Let’s see if I got this right.

The PLA invaded his country, he’s living in exile as a result, and it’s the west’s fault.

Maybe he should be a Republican.

I have a friend who's in nearly all respects a rational person, who immigrated from China about 20 years ago.

His opinion of Tibetans was mind-blowing to me when he told me what he thought of them. In his mind, they were all violent, savage, “animal people”. According to him, Tibetans only bathe three times in their lives: Once when they're born, once when they hit puberty (if I recall correctly) and when they die.

He stated that they take great pride in a “burial” ceremony where they butcher the dead and throw the chunks of meat into the sky for the birds to eat and throw the bones in a lake, and if anyone touches that lake, they're murdered.

On and on he went with stories of children with their faces covered in mucous and dirt a quarter of an inch thick and adults who would sneak up behind you and slash your throat.

Oddly (to me) he'd actually gone there and had photographs and souvenirs.

I'm not saying there is or isn't any veracity to what he's saying (I haven't dedicated much study to it), but it was surprising to me to hear his opinion which was in such stark contrast to what we've heard in the West and I wonder how prevalent this point of view is in China.

He’s also a Communist. He seems to have forgotten all the people tht the Chinese gov’t slaughtered as well as the destruction of his own religion. At worst he has sympathies with the murderous dirtbags. At best he’s a spineless appeaser. Either way, it really is mindblowing some people take this old fool as a spiritual leader.

Actually, my above post was overly harsh. At least he’s taking the right side here. Mea culpa for not reading the entire article.

Yes, let’s not forget the profound restraint that PRC soldiers showed in June of 1989, enduring patiently the endless abuse of a few thousand trouble-makers, until the order finally came for them to take action./sarc

How much of that is based in fact and how much is Red China propaganda?

Some may have a kernel of truth to it, the Dahli Lama was a dictator type government in Tibet before the commies took it over.

Oh, I really couldn't say. Once you get something like that second hand, and if you don't have enough knowledge on the subject to ask probing questions, you kind of have to take it with a grain of salt.

I was mainly reflecting on how different his perception was (and possibly many other Chinese folks) to that held by many in the west.

I did discover what he said about the "sky burial" as they call it, was accurate. Not for those with a weak stomach.
