PORTLAND, Maine -- What would you miss to attend a Super Bowl Game? If you are like many Americans, apparently just about anything. A recently-released survey from CouponCabin.com showed that the Super Bowl has become more important than just about anything to Americans.
Twenty-one percent of those polled said they would skip an important work responsibility to attend the game. Twenty percent said they would skip the wedding of a close friend or family member. Nineteen percent said they would pass on attending the funeral of a loved one.Fifteen percent said they would go to the Super Bowl rather than attend the birth of their own child.
The survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Coupon Cabin from January 9th - 11th, 2012 among 2,625 adults ages 18 and older.
Now that I think about it, using the Darth Vader image for this is ironic. Good old Darth missed the birth of his children in the movies too.
Good question. Die hard fans can tell you who was in the game and who won last year, but for most people, the Super Bowl is the only football game they watch all year. And they could never tell you who was in it last year, or five years ago. Yet they are all supposedly so interested in the Super Bowl. Go figure.
It’s been hyped to be such a big event. Maybe that’s part of it. Sort of the like the Academy Awards. A big TV audience tunes in to that one to watch who gets awards for movies they themselves have never seen.

You definitely don’t need to be in the delivery room for the birth of your dogs.
Why sure- why not? NOTHING is more important than football in this country for TOO many. After all, how many are willing to overlook child-rape if it hurts football? Certain head coaches chose to ‘miss’ that!
Football has become a national sickness, IMO. The Superbowl will be here in N.O. next year, and I dread it. If I got tickets I would sell immediately and leave town. The obsession is truly sickening and its never over.
I only wish I could torture football fanatics with ice-skating the way they torture me with their inescapable obsession.
If you offered me free plane tickets to the super bowl, and free tickets to the game, I don’t think I’d go. IT’s just too much work, and then too much hassle to get parking, get into the game, get out at the end. And it’s so easy and enjoyable watching at home on a big screen TV.
Maybe if a team I cared about was in the super bowl — except I don’t think I have a team I care about anymore.
Men did not attend the birth of their children until recently. Nor did they hover over their pregnant wives during simple doctor visits.
Last time I was at my ob/gyn I noticed all these guys in the waiting room and mentioned it to him. He was like, I don’t get it... don’t they have jobs?

My son went to every Super Bowl the Cowboys played in. The first few were easy. He had a friend whose father was one of the original investors and got tickets that way. After that one could wait all night in line at SMU and get tickets.
Then things changed for the last three. My son and daughter went to the last three but it got increasingly expensive.
They both said they wouldn’t go again because of the money but if they somehow got tickets you can bet your booties they would go ... if the Cowboys were playing.
15? So, even more would attend the birth of their child? A Hell of a lot more than 15% already do. Somewhere around 65% already do. It’s called “single mothers”.

I never really liked football live. I went in college to many of the games, of course they weren’t televised.
I went to one Baltimore Colts play-off game, to watch Bert Jones and Roger Carr. I don’t remember which year that was, but I don’t think it was the 1977 double-overtime game, because i think I’d remember that. Probably 1976.
I was more of a baseball fan anyway.
