PORTLAND, Maine -- What would you miss to attend a Super Bowl Game? If you are like many Americans, apparently just about anything. A recently-released survey from CouponCabin.com showed that the Super Bowl has become more important than just about anything to Americans.
Twenty-one percent of those polled said they would skip an important work responsibility to attend the game. Twenty percent said they would skip the wedding of a close friend or family member. Nineteen percent said they would pass on attending the funeral of a loved one.Fifteen percent said they would go to the Super Bowl rather than attend the birth of their own child.
The survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Coupon Cabin from January 9th - 11th, 2012 among 2,625 adults ages 18 and older.
The survey question about children would be for males. Hard to miss the birth of your child if you are a female.
but how many would miss the death of a child, to run for the presidency?
Yeah, but the 15% were the pregnanat women.
You can tell because it says PORTLAND MAINE early on and it comes from a station with "W" as the first letter (not "K").
mea culpa
A guy named Joe receives a free ticket to the SuperBowl from his company. Unfortunately, when Joe arrives at the stadium, he realizes the seat is in the last row in the corner of the stadium, he's closer to the Goodyear Blimp than the field. About halfway through the first quarter, Joe sees through his binoculars an empty seat 10 rows off the field right on the 50 yardline.
He decides to take a chance and makes his way through the stadium and around the security guards to the empty seat. As he sits down, Joe asks the gentleman sitting next to him, "Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?"
The man says "No."
Now, very excited to be in such a great seat for the game, Joe again inquires of the man next to him, "This is incredible! Who in their right mind would have a seat like this at the SuperBowl and not use it?!"
The man replies, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first SuperBowl we haven't been together at since we got married in 1967."
"Well, that's really sad," said Joe, "but still, you couldn't find anyone to take the seat? A friend or close relative?" "No," the man replies, "They're all at the funeral."
Most people cant even remember who won last year and certainly not two years ago, so how important is it really..?
Back in the days of my youth [I’m 65], men NEVER attended the birth of the kid. They either: [a] were in the waiting room,[b] at a bar down the street, [c] watching the other kids [if there were any], or [d] out buying cigars without “it’s a (whatever)” labels on them. Ah, for the good old days.
To put it in nautical terms [if you’re male], you have to be there for the laying of the keel. You don’t have to be there for the launching of the ship.
If you had been there you would know.....
That’s true. But would it matter who won?
Visa used to run a series of commercials about this group of guys who had never missed a Superbowl. I believe they discontinued them last year because one of them passed away. IIRC, one of them revealed during an interview that he had missed the birth of one of his kids to attend the game.
I’m a diehard pro football fan, and don’t really care about the Super Bowl.
The Conference Championship games are the best ones.
GMTA. I was unaware I had a choice whether to be at the birth of my children or not!
Hopefully, there were no females voting in this survey?
If the survey group was roughly half male and half female. That 15% would actually be 30% of the males.
Yes I know, that level of dedication is ridiculous, but it's getting that bad out there in the "real world". People are going deep into the diversions to stay sane. ~~JMHO
I’m with you on that one.
It’s like there is so much hoopla and hype about the Super Bowl, and the whole event does not feel like the atmosphere of an NFL game anymore.
Many people who don’t watch a football game all year watch the Super Bowl. It’s their one game a year to see.
I’m with you. I get into the playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl much more than the Super Bowl itself.
... and 85% would have the birth AT the superbowl.
