Among TRUE CONSERVATIVES, NEWT TAKES IT AT 46%, ROMNEY LAST AT 11%

I came home and was totally bummed by the results so far. I looked for anything on FR to cheer me up. Finally I succumbed and went to the former-other favorite website Drudge and begrudgingly clicked on the 'Landslide' article - blah blah blah and there, at the very bottom - I found my glimmer of hope: In a positive sign for Gingrich, exit polls showed evangelical voters trending for the former House speaker. The exit polls showed Gingrich with 40 percent among that group, and Romney with 36 percent.

But the margin was wider for Romney among seniors and Hispanics. Half of the seniors polled were supporting Romney, while 35 percent backed Gingrich. Romney also led Gingrich 56-29 percent among Hispanic voters, the largest minority in the state, exit polling showed.

Voters overwhelmingly went for Romney among those who said winning in November is the most important quality in a Republican nominee. But for voters who valued "true conservative" credentials as their top quality, Gingrich led with 46 percent, followed by Santorum at 26 percent and Paul at 16 percent. Among those voters, Romney was last with 11 percent.

"This is immensely encouraging"

Is it? What it tells me is that (in Florida) if the TEA Party couldn't get Newt elected, then forming a 3rd Party is a really dumb idea (in Florida). Correct me if I'm not seeing this right.

Florida was a closed primary.

Makes sense. On Hugh Romney radio show he is talking all about how this makes Mitt inevitable. Moderates setting us up for another failure! THe tea party in many other states will not allow it!

Hello Mittens boy, This man has cheated on two women that we know of

So sorry you can NOT get your facts right... are you buying the MSM stories whole and not thought out or with logical reasoning. Why??
Are you really a Mitten licker? Now it is expected the noneducated, non thinking, citizens buy those stories but you have hundreds of pages just here on FR that pass along the correct versions.
So if you bought the stories en-Toto you do so willingly and with true liberal zeal. Pathetic!
Oh to only have a zot button... you have proven you can be dragged to the dark side.. because you want to be taken.
So sad.

...with Mitt beating the total votes of Newt + Santorum combined...

It's looking like Newt Gingrich (32%) + Rick Perot (13%) = 1% shy of Mitt Romney's 46%.

The question to me is whether Santorum's votes would split or go one way over the other.

Question :

What good is it to have a true conservative if he loses to Obama?

What good is it to have an establishment leftist if he can’t beat Obama? Or worse yet if he can?

Santorum’s votes would likely mostly go to Gingrich, but some would go to Romney, and don’t forget that some % of Santorum’s supporters would just stay home and not vote.

What's the point of your post? We knew this months ago that Florida would be much more hospitable to Romney because there are less conservatives in Florida than Iowa or South Carolina.

This is why four years ago, Guiliani waited until the Florida primary to participate since it is less conservative and he had a better chance of winning in Florida than in SC.

The issue is not who the conservatives supported, but the lack of conservatives actually voting. Florida is more moderate.

I think the most important thing this election is to defeat Obama, whoever the nominee will be. AND... gain seats in the House and win the Senate.

I’d prefer a moderate Republican in the White House to Marxist Democrat.

Careful study reveals, unfortunately, that this is a contest for President of the country, not for President of True Conservatives.

Florida is not only more representative of the electorate as a whole than Iowa, South Carolina (or New Hampshire), it's more similar to the Republican primary electorate as whole than the other three states.

If Gingrich can’t win a major state like Florida, he won’t win the nomination

You are comparing apples and oranges.

And how will Newt do that? He has little money and no organization. Mitt has many millions and lots of people on the ground. Mitt almost won Iowa and he barely campaigned there. Don't put your head in the sand, Newt is going to have a tough time. Can he do it? Yes, but it is going to take a huge mistake by Mitt that will be in the news for days and he is too disciplined to commit such a blunder.

Really? Your willing to look past all teh stuff I mentioned without even having to delve very far in my memory banks for? He cheated on two women, he is twice divorced, Calista was the other woman. Those are facts ole Newt cannot run from.

Listen there is no “MSM Conspiracy” Libs with their tin foil hats can use that tactic, but you are putting your faith in a deeply flawed person. So go ahead, attack me, by all means, call me a “Mittens” boy so i can get zotted off a board I have been on years.

Feel free to rave and foam at the mouth some more. Like Ron Paul, Newt is a cariacture at best and a sure fire way to get Obama 4 more years. I like Santorum, being a good catholic boy myself, and in teh primaries here in Georgia I will vote for him. In teh general, I will vote for ABO.

Do not despair, FReepers.

It's not over. Not by a long shot.

MAN UP!

This isn't politics as usual. This is for all the marbles.

This is the last election.

We're FReepers. We do.

Ask Dan Rather.

We cannot, we WILL not let this election run the way of GHWB, Dole, McCain at the behest of the GOPe, the state media, the paid in full pundits.

This we will not do.

This we will alter the course of. We will do this because there is NO OTHER COURSE.

This is the last choice. Let's party like it's 1939.
