I mean, why not call it the “Jean-Francois Darlan?”

Well, they could have named her after the Comte de Grasse, who defeated the British off Cape Henry or Cape May, and prevented them from raising the siege of Yorktown. But I think that name is pretty consistently taken by other ships in the French OOB.
