STARBUCKS REDUX
Backwoods Home Magazine ^ | 28 January, 2012 | Massad Ayoob

Posted on 02/01/2012 10:18:04 AM PST by marktwain

We discussed here in February, 2010 how the Starbucks chain, when gun haters demanded that firearms be banned from their coffee shop premises, stood up and said no, they would follow the laws of the given state, and those legally carrying guns would be welcome. My friend and colleague Dave Workman brings you up to date here: http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-seattle/nw-gun-rights-activists-coffee-up-as-starbucks-posts-profits . Be sure to read his links for background.

It seems than an anti-gun group has called for a boycott of Starbucks on this coming Valentine’s Day, February 14. As Dave explains, many of us in the gun movement will be buying something at Starbucks on that day, just to make sure that Starbucks has a profitable holiday despite being boycotted by the antis.

No one put it better than Mike Crenshaw at the respected firearms forum found at www.thehighroad.org. A moderator who posts there as “hso,” Mike sent the following message to Starbucks headquarters: “I’ve just heard that there’s a planned boycott on Feb. 14 by anti-Second Amendment groups attempting to punish Starbucks for their decision to follow state and local law instead of changing company policy on law abiding customers carrying firearms legally. While I’m an occasional customer I’ll make a point of doing my share to offset any business Starbucks may lose due to this proposed boycott. I’ll see to it that my family and I are in Starbucks at least once on Feb. 14.Thank you for not caving in to the radical beliefs of a small vocal group of marginalized extremists.” The discussion thread can be found at http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=639239 .

Buying something at Starbucks, even a $2 purchase, on 14 February, will send a message to all of corporate america.

If you do not care for Starbucks, one purchase on 14 February, will send an even stronger message.

“Here in Washington State, Starbucks has come out publicly in favor of Gay Marriage”.

...this is what messes it up for me. There’s no reason a damn coffee shack has to chime in on such topics. Just sell your overpriced crap and stay out of politics.

I’m so confused. I thought we were boycotting Starbucks because they are pro “gay” marriage.

So, Starbuck's is going to obey state laws? Big whoop.

Their endorsement of homosexual marriage just stopped me from buying any of their coffee including bags available in supermarkets. I've had it with their general counter-culture attitude as well.

From now on, I'm buying locally roasted coffee from a small shop run by a single guy. It's a little more expensive, but so is freedom. Sorry, Masood.

No problem for me I've never liked the coffee (tastes burnt to me) so you could say I've been boycotting them all along. However I will participate in a one day “Buy”cotte just to send a message.

Speaking of Starbucks:

Starbucks officially supports "Gay" Marriage in Washington State

As Washington's legislature works diligently to force homosexual marriage on its constituents, one of the more high-profile corporate entities in the Evergreen State has volunteered to help. In a January 24 statement, Starbucks vice president Kalen Holmes announced that the coffee retailing giant was proudly joining “other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples.” Holmes emphasized that the measure, which would legalize homosexual partnerships as equal with traditional marriage, “is aligned with Starbucks business practices” and is “core to who we are and what we value as a company.”

I’ve been boycotting “Fivebucks” because their expensive cup of brewed coffee sucks.

Boycott them all year except for 14 February. That would send a very strong message about all the business that they are losing, and adds very little to their bottom line.
