U.S. Senate hopeful Tim Burns of North Strabane Township exited the U.S. Senate race on Thursday.

“Those leaders spoke on Saturday,” Burns said of the GOP endorsement, where committee members confirmed Gov. Tom Corbett’s choice.

“ And while it may not have been the outcome I hoped for, I have always known it would be difficult to carry on without their support.”

Burns was no great shakes anyway.

Looks like there will be a primary with some interesting alternatives.

Unfortunately, the PA GOP bench suffered a severe blow a couple years ago with that ridiculous pay raise vote in the legislature.

Burns will be remembered for being able to lose to the same guy twice in the same year.

In 2010 he lost a PA-12 congressional race to Mark Critz in May and then again in November.

He may hold the record as the fastest two-time loser in Pennsylvania history.

No tears for him.

Isn’t it interesting, though, how the candidates are chosen and anointed? In this case, the Gov. picked someone, and the party committee gave him the nod, too.

Ah, democracy in action.

It’s a lousy racket, and that clown in charge Gleason is worthless to the conservative movement.

Here’s the final tally for the Senate endorsement...

....................

The final vote tally for the endorsement (169 votes were required) was:
Steve Welch: 182
Tom Smith: 51
Tim Burns: 46
Sam Rohrer: 33
Marc Scaringi: 6

For now, I’m leaning toward Smith.

I’ve seen Welch speak up close at a Repu meeting. He is a very well practiced and reversed fellow. He’s got all the stereotypical politician mannerisms down, boy.

He’s like spray hair in a can.

Don’t blame him. I think he ended up being Gleason’s stooge, as Gleason set up him to lose anyway.

lol. Mr. Plastic Fantastic!

The two guys I'll consider are Sam Rohrer and Tom Smith.

Smith can self-finance so doesn't need the state GOP, so he's probably got the best chance of knocking off Welch.

Rohrer can probably rally TEA Party support, but raising money will be tough.

I see it as a race between those three, with Rohrer as the longshot.
