60% of doctors punch time clocks for first time (Israel)

Hundreds of physicians have said they would refuse to comply, even though it could mean the loss of overtime payment.

Starting on Wednesday, the nation’s hospital doctors are required to punch time clocks, or register their start and end of work, via a special cellular phone program.

This implements a section of the Israel Medical Association agreement with the government reached last August.

Earlier this week, the Health Ministry issued instructions to all hospital directors that they introduce work-monitoring systems.

The ministry said on Wednesday night that 60 percent of government hospital doctors, and a similar rate in Clalit Health Services hospitals, clocked in as required.

Reasons for refusal include a “protest” against the requirement. “We hope that as time goes on, the problems will be solved and disagreements settled,” the spokeswoman said.

Hundreds of physicians have said they would refuse to comply, even though it could mean the loss of overtime payment.

Punching time clocks was a demand of the Treasury in reaching a deal following months of strikes and sanctions in 2011.

That doesn't seem to be what the article is about at all.

Looks like medical staff are being required to prove the hours worked that they claim.

And if they claim hours as "Doctor" so-and-so, they should be challenged for fraud.

"Doctor" is NOT their first name. Arrogant pukes.

Not at all. What this article proves is that when Doctors are forced to work for the government, then it introduces a new and greater level of fraud and corruption. The Doctors’ salaries have been determined by the state. This is a wonderful example of its failure.

Most of you are probably very well aware that physicians don’t bill, like lawyers do, for every moment they are in some way ‘thinking’ about you. Attorneys can get away with billing for time spent on emails, correspondence, phone calls etc. Physicians don’t bill when they return your calls at the end of the day. They don’t bill when they review your test results. They don’t bill when prescriptions have to be renewed over the phone. They don’t bill when they send info to other doctors you might be seeing. And, most don’t bill when you ask them to fill out paperwork for return to work, or disability, or insurance issues etc. Try asking an attorney to fill out some paperwork for you for free.

My point is that if physicians charged like attorneys, ‘billable hours’ and all, most would do better financially. If I divided up my annual income by the number of hours I work per year it would look like being a physician isn’t such a great financial move. I love taking care of patients, but I would find it insulting to punch a clock. Not because it’s beneath me to punch a clock (I have done this in life previously), but because it’s a sign that the government doesn’t have a clue as to how hard I work and for how many hours.

I would find it insulting to punch a clock.

Would you, now?

Tell me.. do you introduce yourself as "Doctor"?

Why the lie? Why begin the whole process with a lie?

That IS NOT your name.

Everyone has a job title, Jack.

Oh, please. It IS insulting and demeaning to demand that professionals punch a time clock — that’s why they don’t do it.

I’ve worked jobs where I punched one, and I don’t have that kind of job anymore. If they asked me to do so now, I would work elsewhere.

Government workers... American doctors are in for a surprise.

AMA and their foreign members screwed American medicine real good in the name of social justice. But the docs fell for the left’s anti-ethical game as “pro-science” (even while they were faking data for “global warming”) claiming Republicans (Christians) hate science. So the “smart” ones all moved like a herd of dumb cattle into the socialists’ hands. I guess they showed us red neck conservatives how smart they are. Elitism, when weilded by socialists, is not a great thing. LOL

Wait till the smartys at the medical schools and Universities get a load of how much money is NOT available for medical research and education anymore. ON top of a death committee issuing their marching orders in caring for their patients, they will have a lot of fun with the race baiting quota based medical care orders they are given by the socialists and judges.

“Tell me.. do you introduce yourself as “Doctor”?”

No, unless I'm with a patient, and not always then. Lot's of patients, however, don't like it if you drop the formality. It makes them think you're not ‘professional’.

There are plenty of a******s in every profession, and maybe you've had to deal with some who were M.D.s, but most of my M.D. friends are very nice people, to everyone, and are not arrogant. I also have lots of friends who are Ph.D.s, most of whom are also very nice and not arrogant. I would have to say that in my experience the M.D.s and Ph.D.s are about equally likely to want to be addressed as ‘doctor’. Personally, I would much rather have been addressed as ‘starting center fielder’, but that just didn't work out.

I have a masters degree, and I’ve asked my wife to use the proper title, but she just won’t comply.
