Its easy to collect Mitt Romney's "rich" remarks into a highlight reel. Have a few laughs. Sure, we ask, what's the guy thinking? We note that presidential races require your A-game. But then it's tempting to shrug. And say he's still on track to win the GOP nomination. That the general election will turn on the economy. Oh, those silly pundits. How they do obsess over every sound bite.
But listen to Rush Limbaugh on Romney: He comes across as the prototypical rich Republican. And one begins to hear why Romneys gaffes are no joke.
Its commonly said that this primary has left Romney worse for wear. It has. But not because of Newt Gingrich. Its not a matter of backfiring attack advertising. Its not even that, predictably, more Americans see Romney in an unfavorable light as the primary heats up. Its his words. Romneys wounds are self-inflicted. And, if he wins the nomination, well see why.

Mitt Romney: Thank you. Thank you, my friends. (Cheers, applause.) Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Massachusetts evening. (Cheers, applause.)
My friends, we have we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. A little while ago, I had the honor of calling President Barack Obama (boos) to congratulate him (boos) please to congratulate him on being reelected the president of the country that we both love.
In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving.
Yep,.
Even public office is something to be bought and ‘owned’, and not to ‘work’ for.
Holy smokes. I didn’t realize there were so many “rich” gaffes. This article goes on and on. Electable my a$$.
Nothing demonstrates this better than his little slice of life story he told at the beginning of this campaign.
My dear wife. I love her so much. I decided to give her a little gift to compensate for all the work she will be going through.
So I bought her a $10,000,000 mansion on the beach in La Jolla and I’m going to tear it down and build a $20,000,000 for her.
And it apparently never occurred to him that anyone would look at that as anything but a heart warming example of his love for his wife.
And he told this story KNOWING that class warfare would be his opponents’ top strategy.
Folks it’s not a gaffe to be rich. Romney is just the latest frontrunner to be targeted, and if Newt comes back it will be his turn again.
Please wake up. Don’t let the democrats define this race. The knock on Romney is his LIBERAL record because liberalism sucks. Don’t fall for the pumping up of gaffes by our candidates, or that they are all out of touch.
Think folks, just weeks ago it was Newt with a (non) gaffe simply because he suggested getting jobs for poor kids.
With the combination of gaffes and the Trump endorsement, to democrat voters, it looks like the filthy rich white guy’s who couldn’t care less about poor people club. To republican voters, it will look like the filthy rich white northeast liberal guy’s who couldn’t care less about conservatives club.
Spoken like a true communist. Those God damn rich.
You just ruined my day.
Pinged to the Big Guy beccause you NAILED it!!!
It’s not a gaffe to be rich.
But dont think that people are going to be enamored by the stuff he is saying.
But if republicans think Romney understands the issues regular folks in America face on a daily, they are in for a shock. He has no idea (which is why he doesn't connect).
Obama and Axelrod are going to utterly destroy Romney if he is the nominee.
How do you think I feel? I’m the one that had to post it.
You are exactly right. With the job numbers starting to come back, they take away the only plus Romney has. Romney and his private sector experience will mean nothing and they will pulverize him as the rich Wall St guy.
I bet Romney promised Trump a high-paying job, like head of Fannie or Freddie (I hear the bonuses are out of this world).
I didn't think anyone could lose to Obama but Mitt might.
