It’s easy to collect Mitt Romney's "rich" remarks into a highlight reel. Have a few laughs. Sure, we ask, what's the guy thinking? We note that presidential races require your A-game. But then it's tempting to shrug. And say he's still on track to win the GOP nomination. That the general election will turn on the economy. Oh, those silly pundits. How they do obsess over every sound bite.
But listen to Rush Limbaugh on Romney: “He comes across as the prototypical rich Republican.” And one begins to hear why Romney’s gaffes are no joke.
It’s commonly said that this primary has left Romney worse for wear. It has. But not because of Newt Gingrich. It’s not a matter of backfiring attack advertising. It’s not even that, predictably, more Americans see Romney in an unfavorable light as the primary heats up. It’s his words. Romney’s wounds are self-inflicted. And, if he wins the nomination, we’ll see why.

You would think that as a Mormon, he would have some appreciation of what religious persecution means. Unless, of course, he belongs that that large group of Republicans, including the likes of George H.W. Bush, who are totally cynical in their lip service to the pro-like cause. Even so, can he not see the possible political advantage, or is it that his “set” are the kind who are shocked when Komen decides to stop funding Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinics?
I may be forced by my revulsion for Sebellius to vote against Obama, no matter what. I don’t know what arouses my disgust the most, the Obamaites or those Catholics who actually supported Obama care, not realizing what sort of power they were putting into the hands of a pro-abortion fanatic--and I do not use the term lightly--like Sebellius.
You are very right about that. With Romney, however, there seems to be a naive delusion that somehow, unlike Newt, the press is going to lay-off him. . .and that constitutes to a large degree, his "electablity". . .as a result, Romney seems so ill-equipped to go to war with the press or to anticipate how they will attempt to destroy him.
Look at what Ann Coulter says about this in an article about the reasons behind Romney's alleged "electability:" "Romney is the most electable candidate not only because it will be nearly impossible for the media to demonize this self-made Mormon square, devoted to his wife and church. . . . These Romney people actually believe this insanity! And because they believe that it "is nearly impossible for the media to demonize" Romney. . .Romney is so poorly equipped for the battle at hand. . .That is why he will continue to bumble, stumble and fumble. . .(hopefully, before he is able to collect the Republican nomination)

I don't see the gaffe in this latest statement hitting the pundit circle. Let the democrats attack. All the republicans have to do is point this out to the middleclass.
If he is, it's because a lot of misguided Tea Partyers/pro lifers/other consersatives -- and there are a lot of them -- are supporting him.
Me, I think he's going to be Richard Nixon II.
The entire mainstream media knows that Romney hates poor people in all 57 states.

I was quite certain you are not a communist, but if we want to worry about what Romney says we must also worry about what we say.
As to the belief Obama is going to destroy any republican I say like Hell.
He may know it...but I don't think he comprehends it. Romney strikes me as kind of dense.

Even in context, this is really a HUGE liberal gaffe, as it reflects a mindset that he loves, loves, loves the status quo. He LIKES the big liberal entitlement programs that keep people COMFORTABLE in poverty with no vision to change how things are in America.
If I were Newt, I would create an ad that contrasts this statement with the firey statement Newt made where he said (paraphrasing), I am for an America where people get a job, they get a better job and then they OWN the job!!!’

Actually, Newt just did an excellent video very much like your ideas. It might be on the campaign website now; I saw it this morning because a Freeper linked to it, but I don’t remember where.
How about dropping your callous, foul mouth! No place for condemning our Creator here in FreeRepublic, nor anywhere else for that matter!
The “gaffe” that the media are running with is “I don’t care about the very poor.” You may not like the safety net comment, but that’s not the gaffe. It’s not a “gaffe” that the liberals can win with.
