Mitt Romney’s Mormon firewall

Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith — once viewed as a potentially dangerous drag on his 2012 campaign — may quickly become an invaluable asset that helps him lock up the Republican presidential nomination. Now that he has survived, if only barely, the evangelical-dominated contests in Iowa and South Carolina, Romney is poised to benefit as the geography of the GOP race moves west to states such as Nevada, Arizona and Colorado.

Love the double standard. It is EVIL not to vote for Romney because he is a Mormon but it's totally fine for all the Mormons living out West to vote 99% for Romney because he is one of them.

Mormonism in a Nutshell
by Cooper Abrams

http://bible-truth.org/MormonisminNutShell.html

It is common knowledge that Mormons consistently and deliberately hide the teachings of their religion. Their main deception is that they present themselves as simply another mainline Christian denomination who believe and worship our Creator who has revealed Himself in the Bible. They claim they worship the Jesus Christ of the Bible, and their founder Joseph Smith used His name to identify their church. However, even a cursory examination of the teachings of their church shows plainly, they worship a false God and Jesus Christ and not our true God and Creator of the Bible. What is worst is they hide their true beliefs which would instantly expose what they truly are to any informed Christian. This appears to be the reason they are so secretive about their true believes. If you ask them about this they reply these are matters to sacred to discuss in public.

To the contrary, biblical Christians are not ashamed or try to hide their faith in Jesus Christ as their God and Savior and belief in His word the Bible. They gladly and openly preach and teach all the tenants of biblical faith in Gospel of Jesus Christ. They enthusiastically proclaim their faith, hide nothing, and have no secret ceremonies. Further biblical Christians do not evangelize to get people to join their church, but to win them to Jesus Christ, so they may have their sins forgiven and receive eternal life.

The truth is the Jesus Christ of the Mormon church is very different Jesus from our true Savior as revealed in the Bible. It only takes a little research to reveal this truth. This was verified by the late President and Prophet Gordon B. Hinkley of the LDS church. He stated on June 4, 1998, in a speech in Paris, France:

“The traditional Christ of whom they speak (meaning traditional Christian churches) is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak as been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the matters of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.” (Church News, June 20, 1998, p70)
Biblical Christians label the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a Christian cult. What makes a cult is when someone or a group takes the traditional beliefs of an established faith, changes or distorts its normal tenants of faith, and gives new definitions of its terms to fit the cult’s views. This is what Joseph Smith and the Mormons have done since their beginnings in the early 1800s.

Let us look then at the teachings and beliefs of the LDS church.

Mormons believe that their Jesus was the first born son of their once human god. They believe their god was once a mortal man who was born on some planet out in the Universe and there lived a good and worthy life. Their god, however, is only one god of millions of gods who rule planets out in the Universe. After being born a mortal man on a planet out in space he lived a life faithful to the god of his planet. When their man-become-god died, he was resurrected to a place the Mormons call the Celestial heaven. In the Celestial heaven he was rewarded for his good works and was exalted to godhood. This once mortal man, who was born a sinner like all men, but was rewarded for his good works and was make a god. He was then given the planet Earth to rule by a council of gods that meet near the star Kolob that is near the center of the Universe. The Mormons have always declared their god has a physical body and is a now god of “flesh and bone” although now exalted in godhood. They ridicule Christians who believe the Bible which says God is a Spirit.

Mormons believe this then new god who had not existed until he was born on some planet in the Universe. Being born a man he had physical body of flesh and bones. However, after he was exalted to godhood he came to earth, bringing with him his heavenly family. His family was “sealed” to him, for all time and eternity,” when he was a mortal man and performed a secret ceremony in a Mormon temple called the “endowments” referred to as the “temple marriage.” He then, with his many wives, began to sexually produce “spirit children” in heaven. Although the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, based in Salt Lake City, Utah does not practice polygamy today, they do believe their god is a polygamist and has many wives in heaven. It is interesting that Jesus Himself said “For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.” (Mark 12:25)

The first born “spirit child” of this man-become-god was the Mormon Jesus and his second son was Lucifer or Satan. In fact, Jesus according to Mormonism is not the “only begotten son of God,” but only the first of billions or trillions of their god’s sons and daughters. The sincerely believe that every person born on earth was first born as a spirit child in heaven and then was allowed to come to earth to becoming mortals, so through eternal progression they would have the opportunity to be come a god themselves. This is why biblical Christians correctly state that the Jesus of the LDS church is the brother of Satan. According to the Mormon belief believe of “preexistence”, all mankind are the brothers and sisters of Jesus and Satan. Mormons call Jesus their “elder brother.” The fact is Satan is their second elder brother.

This teaching or doctrine of the Mormon church is called “preexistence.” It means everyone who ever has been born on earth was first the offspring of their god and one of his wives in heaven. They proclaim “Families are Forever” meaning that after death the family remains together if they performed the secret marriage ceremony or endowments in an LDS temple. Only the most faithful of the Mormons are allowed in the temples and are required to have a pass called a “temple recommend” to enter their temples. To get the “temple recommend” they have to be interviewed by LDS church officials and meet strict requirements. The ceremonies performed in their temples are highly secret. Only “worthy Mormons” are allowed in the their temples and to performed the “temple marriage.” Only worthy Mormon men, who hold the Melchizedek priesthood, who have been married in their temples, can become gods. The temple ceremony is actually of a wive being sealed to their husband who is a priest. On married men who have had their wives sealed to them can become gods. After performing the temple marriage, having received the endowments they are allowed to wear holy or sacred underwear (called temple garments, which the purchase at the church store, to protect them from temptation and evil. It is reported that only twenty percent of Mormons hold a valid “temple recommend” that is required to take the “Endowments” or Temple Marriage. Non-temple Mormons, both men and women, will be the servants of the worthy Mormons who are exalted to godhood.

Thus the Mormon god lives in heaven with his heavenly family. They believe that their god is, of course, is married and there is also heavenly mother(s) as well. Their belief is their god has an innumerable number of heavenly wives who bear the children of their “heavenly father.” A worthy Mormon man, holding the Melchizedek priesthood, while on earth can receive the heavenly marriage to numerous wives while on earth. These wives will be his subordinate wives in heaven. Every person born on earth was once sexually conceived in heaven by “heavenly father” (their title for god) and one of his wives. (Think about the practical ramifications of this belief. It is estimated as many as a trillion people have been born on earth. They teach that these heavenly “spirit children” are allowed by “heavenly father” to come to earth and get human bodies when humans have children. This is one of the reasons Mormons have large families. They are seeking to provide mortal bodies for “spirit children” so they can come to earth and continue what the Mormons call “eternal progression.” They are the only religion that seeks to get people out of heaven and on to the earth.

Eternal progression is actually the gospel of Mormonism. Through eternal progression, their man-become-god was able to become a god and the ruler of earth. Mormons believe that if they are faithful to their church and god, do the temple ceremonies, they too may be exalted in the Celestial heaven and become a god themselves. Is Mormonism a cult? The answer is emphatically “Yes.” Their faith is not Christian and not based on the clear teachings of the Bible. They deceptively use the name Jesus Christ and other Christians terms but give them LDS definitions. It should be noted however, that the LDS Church officials tell their membership they worship the God and Jesus Christ of the Bible. If you ask a Mormon do they worship the God and Jesus Christ who is revealed in the Holy Bible they will answer affirmative. However, a comparison of the god and Jesus of Mormonism with the Bible, show they are completely different. If you would like to read a detailed articles titled “Who is the God of Mormonism?” go to http://bible-truth.org/LDStheism.html.

http://bible-truth.org/LDSpolygamy.html
It is not the LDS Church’s official doctrine that Jesus Christ was married and practiced polygamy, but it was certainly taught by church officials and believed by the Mormon people. The following quotes by the prophets and authorities of the LDS church clearly show that the Mormon god and Jesus Christ are not the God and Jesus Christ of the Bible. Here is more deniable evidence that Mormons are not Christians because they do not believe in the true God or Jesus Christ as revealed by the Bible.

Note what the LDS prophets preached and believed about Jesus Christ:

Jedediah M. Grant, Second Counselor to Brigham Young the Second Prophet of the LDS Church:
“Celsus was a heathen philosopher; and what does he say upon the subject of Christ and his Apostles, and their belief? He says, the ‘grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ, was because He had so many wives; there were Elizabeth, and Mary, and a host of others that followed Him.’ After Jesus went from the stage of action, the Apostles followed the example of their master. . . The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, casing his crucifixion, was evidently based on polygamy,. . .a belief in the doctrine of plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus, and his followers. We might almost think they were ‘Mormons’ “ (Journal of Discourses, Vol 1. ppl 345-346)
Mormon Apostle Orson Hyde made these statements:
“It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; . . .no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha, and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved, must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the least of it.”
“I will venture to say that if Jesus Christ were now to pass thought the most pious countries in Christendom with a train of women, such as used to follow him, . . .he would be mobbed, tarred, and feathered, and rode, not on as ass, but on a rail.”

“At this doctrine the long-faced hypocrite and the sanctimonious bigot will probably cry, blasphemy! . . . Object not, therefore, too strongly against the marriage of Christ.” (All the above statements: Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, pages 259-260)

“When Mary of old came to the sepulcher. . .she saw two angels in white. and they said unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She said unto them, Because they have take away my Lord, OR HUSBAND, and I know not where they have laid him.” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, page 210)

In 1853 the following appeared in the Mormon church paper, the Millennial Star:
“. . .we apprehend that even greater troubles than these may arise before mankind learn all the particulars of Christ’s incarnation-how and by whom he was begotten; the character of the relationships formed by the act; the number of wives and children he had. . .” (The Millennial Star, Vol 15, page 825)
Statement by Brigham Young, second prophet of the LDS church:
“The Scripture says that He, the Lord, came walking in the Temple, with “HIS TRAIN; I do not know who they were, unless his wives and children;” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13. page 309)
The Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt:
“...it will be seen that the GREAT MESSIAH who was the founder of the Christian religion, WAS A POLYGAMIST, . . .the MESSIAH chose. . .by marrying honorable wives himself, show to all future generations that HE approbated the plurality of wives under the Christian dispensation, as well as under the dispensation in which His polygamist ancestors lived. . . .We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives. . .” (The Seer, page 172)
These are a few of the quotes from the writing of the Mormon elders concerning the fact that they teach and believe the blasphemy that Jesus was married to Mary, Martha and the other Mary and that God was once a man and now lives in heaven practicing polygamy.
To obtain the celestial glory, which means to obtain godhood, a couple must have a temple marriage referred to as the sealing ceremony or endowments. This marriage is referred to as for all time and eternity and means an eternal marriage. Joseph Fielding Smith gave this answer to the question about Mormon couples who are not married in the temple, “Unless young people who marry outside the temple speedily repent, they cut them-selves off from exaltation in the celestial kingdom of God. If they should prove themselves worthy, notwithstanding that great error, to enter into the celestial kingdom, they go in that kingdom as servants. [see Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 4 vols. (Salt Lake: Deseret Books, 1957-66), p. 196., Gospel Library, [CD-ROM], Infobases, 1998.’]

This means that unless Jesus Christ was married he would not be allowed to go to the highest heaven which is the Celestial Heaven nor could he become a god. It is an absolute fact that the LDS Church’s official teaching is that a man must be married obtain the Celestial Heaven.

The unmistakable conclusion is that the LDS god was a mortal man who was married and his marriage qualified him for being exalted to godhood.        The god of the Mormons is a man-god who once was a man like any other man, who by his good works was exalted to godhood. That is what the Mormons are working for....not salvation...but godhood. (See Genesis 3:5, Godhood is what Satan promised Eve if she disobeyed God and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil)

The Jesus, the Mormons proclaim to love so dearly, is absolutely not the Jesus Christ of the Bible, but according to their teaching the sexual offspring of their god and one of his many wives in heaven. In fact Jesus, Satan and all men are the actual offspring of their god of flesh and bone.

Although this teaching is not official LDS doctrine, it is taught in their church by their prophets and authorities and believed by a most Mormons.

“Celsus was a heathen philosopher; and what does he say upon the subject of Christ and his Apostles, and their belief? He says,
the ‘grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ, was because He had so many wives; there were Elizabeth, and Mary, and a host of others that followed Him.’ After Jesus went from the stage of action, the Apostles followed the example of their master. .

I'm not so sure about, "barely" surviving in SC. One of the articles here on FR showed more Evangelicals in SC voted for Romney than Newt. Given the small numbers that vote in primaries, that doesn't look so good for the election later this year. I have no idea what sort of argument Evangelicals could make to rationalize voting for Romney rather than Newt, but apparently a good many think that's the case.

I still don't understand how you can even get to the point of considering what religion Romney is in since he has Romneycare on his shoulder like a pirate has a parrot. What else do you need to know about him to reject him without further consideration?

mormonISM is only a fire wall in states dominated by mormons.
They vote 94%+ for him - that’s called lock step.
You are correct if you don’t vote for him it’s because he is a mormon, if mormons vote for him it’s because he is the best candidate.
Let’s also not forget moromnISM teaches a disdain for Catholics, so maybe it’s the mormons who are bigoted against voting for either of our Catholic candidates.

Romney didn't do well in South Carolina. And I can't see him doing well in the rest of the Southern states unless Gingrich and Santorum are knocked out early.

Your knowledge of Mormon theology is correct, AFAIK. I am certainly no Romney fan, given his track record in Massachusetts. Gingrich, Santorum, and Paul (except on foreign policy) are all more conservative than Romney. However, here is the problem for evangelicals, as well as conservative Catholics, etc. They can vote for Romney, vote for Obama, vote for one of the minor parties, or abstain. Romney may be less than desirable, but voting for him would at least remove Obama from office. Preventing a second term for Obama, when his leftist tendencies will be unrestrained, is imperative.

the hypocrisy astounds me.

if evangelicals want to vote for a fellow Christian... they are labeled bigots.

if Mormons want to vote for a fellow Mormon.. well.. that's understandable! of course they would want to support one of their own!

LOL

this is like the hypocrisy of blacks all over again!

Give the DNC credit for recognizing that if they have a Negro voting block of credulous dupes, it is only fair for the RNC to have a Mormon voting block of credulous dupes. Reverend Al Sharpton - Bishop Willard Romney. Sort of a balance in the game of staged political theater. Equivalence.

why is no one talking about Romney racist past?

The Mormon church didn’t allow blacks to become priest until 1978. Romney was born in 1947... which means for the first 31 years of his life Romney was a member of a racist organization that considered blacks the spawn of satan and cursed.

Could you please tell me what happen to all of the Christians before the Mormons of 1820? The preachings of Mr. Smith are so different from the teachings of my Bible. I can’t believe my Lord would wait so many years and suddenly change his mind in so many ways. Did God suddenly become a man in 1820? Just asking!

Sure.

It's like waking up someday to find out your nice, quiet Hindu dominated neighborhood has been taken over by Moslems ~ happened here, could happen anywhere!

Just to let you know that 94%+ of mormons voted for Romney.
Just to let you know I have a huge lds family, and every single one of them are voting for Romney BECAUSE he is lds.
They are all starting to comment that Romney will be the fulfillment of the white horse prophecy. One aunt even refers to him as Moses.
So the mormons you know are part of the 6%-.
