Mark Steyn: So Obama wants to be his “brother’s keeper”? I have an idea for him!

In the midst of espousing Biblical principles at the National Prayer Breakfast yesterday, Barack Obama made a point to say, “We are our brother’s keeper.” Interesting that he used the collective “we” — and made no mention of his actual brother or of his responsibilities to him. Yesterday evening, author Mark Steyn filled in the gaps in the president’s speech:

“Oh give me a break,” Steyn said on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Thursday night. “For a start, when he says, ‘I am my brother’s keeper,’ his brother is back in Kenya living on $12 a year. That’s what he was living on at the time of the 2008 election. So all the president has to do in terms of shared responsibility is put a $10 bill in an envelope and mail it to Nairobi or Mombasa or wherever and he will double his brother’s salary.”

At issue is the Obama administration’s effort to require Catholic institutions to provide contraception. Steyn explained this is part of “big government” trying to supplant the church as a source of “moral authority.” “This version of shared responsibility means the state should be your ‘brother’s keeper,’” he said. “And this is the point for the Catholic Church. Separation of church and state is one thing, but big government means the state as church, the sole legitimate source of moral authority whether it’s on contraception or gay marriage or abortion or any of the rest. And that’s what you see in Europe. Big government drives out other sources of moral authority.”

Bottom line- BO hates any religion outside of islam.

He is doing everything in his power to weaken and to show his contempt and disdain for anything Christian or American.

This WICKED, GODLESS, EVIL man has a half brother living in a cardboard hut on $12 a month; Obamessiah’s wife spends 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS on sexy underwear in a day, they have spent HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON LAVISH VACATIONS AND SPENDING SPREES and he hasn’t given his brother a penny to aid his suffering! It is nothing short of hypocrisy for him to talk about “caring for the poor” and blasphemy for him to say what he is saying about the Lord Jesus Christ, the so-called “rich” and taxes!

I'm glad you said that -- there's been an inordinate amount of Steyn-bashing going on here recently because he has dared to criticize Newt. The guy is brilliant even though brilliant does not mean infallible. I wish more people would keep that in mind.

Most of you probably know that before he became popular in the U.S., he had weekly columns in the UK, Australia, and Canada. He lost them all because of his stance against militant Islam and the danger it posed to Western civilization.

Even now, I'm not sure that his column is carried by any papers save the "O.C. Register." It's tough to buck the tide.

National Review

Jewish World Review

Investors Business Daily

Washington Times

Have his columns now and again...

Of course only IBD and the WT are papers, I think,...

I agree. Mark is awesome. His written word is better than the spoken though.

I stand corrected. I questioned myself when I wrote it, but just couldn’t think of them. IBD is a big one. Washington Times is important, too. Good. Would like to see him syndicated in even more.

Only reason I subscribe to Rush 24/7 is so that I don’t miss the times that Mark Steyn and Walter Williams sub-host.

Did you catch the honorable and esteemed Dr. Williams last time he was on Rush? This was before Romney made his “I’m not concerned about the poor . . . . “ comment, but the good doctor had the perfect parable encapsulating what the inarticulate Romney never could.

It went something like this:

Capitalism does not care about the poor, but the greed of capitalism is the best thing for the poor. The farmer who grows the wheat does not think about nor care about the poor person who will buy the bread it makes. The farmer just wants to sell his wheat to feed his family. The farmer’s greed feeds us all.

By the way, this is a great book to teach kids about capitalism and Adam Smith.
