RENO, NEV. — The remaining candidates in the winnowed Republican presidential field are attacking one another with abandon, each day bringing fresh headlines of accusations and outrage.

But Mitt Romney and Ron Paul haven’t laid a hand on each other.

Mark Levin discussed this article tonight and said he has suspected this and will be linking to the article. He talked about this directly after the first hour in his show tonight. Mark said all of Ron Paul's ads target Gingrich and Santorum and not Romney. That he wants to speak at the convention and Romney would like him to stay in as long as he can. Levin said it looks like Ron Paul has sold out to his supporters and it is a big price to pay for so little.

This article was posted last night and I made the following comment, at the risk of sounding paranoid I’m going to post it again.

RP PACS and the RP campaign ran negative ads against Newt when Newt was not leading but never ran negative ads against Romney. I believe it’s possible they have a deal. RP attacks Newt and agrees to not run a third party campaign if Romney is the Republican Nominee. In exchange Rand Paul would get the VEEP. As VEEP picks go this would make sense as Kentucky is far enough South and Rand Paul is preceived as having Conservative and Tea Party creds. Also Rand lied about “breaking news to get on Hannity’s radio show to read a letter he had written to an Iowa newspaper attacking Newt. It’s a plausible theory and I believe they are un-principled and slimey enough to do it , I also believe Romney wouldn’t hesitate to stiff the Pauls if it were to his advantage.

It’s worth noting that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have exact opposite positions on pretty much everything.

They are NOT on the same side.

It probably sounds like Romney trying to explain Romneycare to Santorum in Florida. LOL!

There is not a snowballs chance in hell of Paul voters going to Romney, none, zip zero nada. Anyone that says otherwise is either a liar or a fool. On issues Paul and Romney are exact opposites. If Paul voters go any where they will go to Newt the nuts jobs voters will go to Obama.

“It’s worth noting that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have exact opposite positions on pretty much everything.

I know. Almost perfect inversions of one another.

I have a friend who has been a fervid RP supporter for years now. He is of the opinion that this is simply to rocket boost Rand Paul’s prospects, and my friend is NOT happy about the devils’ bargain, if there is one. We both agreed that Bishop Willard Romney has probably made conflicting deals with multiple people, just to stiff them in the end. What are they going to do? Go public with their own illicit agreements? If they did, what would it accomplish? Nothing.

Yes. I think you are onto something. Mark did mention Ron Paul’s son in the mix here. I do remember how Rand Paul called Hannity to annouce that hit piece on Newt. That was really low in my eyes and Hannity was not prepared for it. Then I saw him stumping for his dad all over the place even though they supposedly don’t agree on a lot. THAT MADE MY ALARMS GO OFF BIG TIME.

Somehow, I think the political distance between Romney voters and likely Paul voters is a gulf which will not be breached by bashing Romney (at least not in Paul's favor). He might shift some Newt or Santorum voters toward himself by bashing candidates opposed to Romney because those candidates and their supporters are already closer to Paul idealogically than Romney.

Romney is a big government guy, pushing voters out of his camp will likely put them in Newt's camp, and that isn't an effective use of Paul's resources. Pushing them out of Santorum's camp, and they'll go toward Newt or Paul, and that is the reason to unsettle supporters of both Santorum and Newt, who might shift to Paul but would be unlikely to support Romney.

It isn't an alignment with Romney, instead it is a shrewd and targeted strategy which uses his resources to his own best advantage.

In other words Paul knowing he cannot and will not get the nomination finds it to his advantage to bump his total slightly at the expense of someone who may actually be able to stop the big government guy. And this is a wise way for his PAC and compaign to spend their money instead of promoting his agenda. I believe Dr Paul is for and all about Dr. Paul as Mitt Romney is for and all about Mitt Romney, at least Paul does appear to have some core beliefs although there several of them he doesn’t spend time talking about publicly anymore.
