COTTONDALE, Ala. (WIAT)- A gun-fueled battle in West Alabama injures six people, leaving two in critical condition. A birthday celebration at Eddins Estates apartment complex on Ken Sealy Drive turned volatile when two men entered the home, demanded money, and opened fire. "When I came home there was, like, blood stains all over my building, like on the gorund. You could tell where something just happened," says Trent Gray, a resident of Eddins Estates.
When Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies arrived they found four victims in the apartment and another in a seperate unit. The sixth gunshot victim is one of the suspects. He was injured when a guest at the party returned fire. The suspect was seen being dropped off at DCH by a private car.
The victims are a 17-year old male (critical condition), an 18-year old male (stable), an 18-year old female (critical), an 18-year old male (stable), and a 20-year old male (treated and released). The suspect that was shot underwent emergency surgery and is currently listed in stable condition. "It's a difficult investigation. We've got victims in the hospital [and] a number of witness that scattered throughout the complex," says Tuscaloosa Sheriff Ted Sexton.
Tuscaloosa Police arrested another suspect, 23-year old Donald Deshun Wynn, at a relative's house in Cottondale. Wynn has been charged with five county of Robbery 1st Degree, two counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, and one count of Assault 1st Degree.
The shootings happened in an area not known for crime and danger. "I just couldn't believe it, you know, I was here, I just wouldn't think anything like that would happen right here so close to home," says Gray. Sheriff Sexton adds, "I wouldn't call it a high crime neighborhood. We've responded to calls out there, [but] this is the first shooting that I'm aware of in that area." Most residents are shocked, but don't think the incident reflects their neighborhood. "I always felt that it's a safe area. We've never had any problems, this is the first time," says Imane Abhir.

Why do they call it a gun fueled battle? It appears to me that two armed thieves entered the building with the intent to rob these people and the people or someone, defended themselves with a weapon.
I suppose if the people who objected to being robbed had been disarmed there would have been no battle and it would have just been another armed robbery, and that would have been ok with the news source.

No, just high crime residents. Funny how these stories of shootings at “parties” seem to follow predictable demographics. Even Chuck E. Cheese isn’t safe anymore.

Apparently there is like, you know, ummm, something like unusual happened here?
Back in October I visited a small Mississippi town to buy tamales. The place there was said to be the best there is with many recommendations.
I walked by big guy who gave me the once over and entered the building. There was a large banquet hall and an obvious wedding reception
The next door down was to the restaurant. It was locked. I walked to the side and the drive in window and was told to go back, the door was now unlocked. I bought the tamales and heard some fabulous tales from the owner. It was a great encounter.
The guy in front was without doubt a guard charged with preventing just such an incident as described in the piece.
I used to live in a nice apartment complex. New appliances, paint, carpet, swimming pool, clubhouse, etc. To live there, you had to pay a high deposit equal to a month's rent, pay an application fee and pay for a criminal and financial background check. You practically had to interview in order to live there. The complex changed owners and in an effort to quickly fill up vacancies, the new owners decided to waive the background checks and offer "first month free" move-in specials.
I'm sure you can predict what quickly happened. In just a couple of months the place went from peaceful and serene to burglaries, break-ins and people getting robbed at gunpoint in the parking lots -not to mention the loud "rent-parties" that went on until 3 or 4 in the morning. Needless to say, I moved out.
It wasn't a bad neighborhood until we imported bad residents.

Once upon a time, Oakland was a beautiful city that rivaled San Francisco for charm and elegance. You can still catch glimpses of what was, gingerbread houses and once-beautiful parks. World War II changed all that, when Henry Kaiser needed unskilled manual labor for the shipyards, and imported it from the rural south. The end of war meant the end of the need for unskilled labor.
But they stayed on, and even multiplied at an alarming rate, largely due to generous social programs that required very little effort from the recipient.
And the legacy of social decline and abandoned business districts lives on. And on. And on.

“Gorunds” are caused by dislexic keyboards. They are not the result of human error or ignorance. Like firearms, these keyboards create their mayhem all by themselves. Dislexic keyboards must be banned in order to save the children.
