Don't say that it can't happen here. This blows my mind...it's like reading something from Dr. Zhivago!

Repeat after me: Brotherhood! Equality! Bread! <./obamaism>

BLOAT!...and then double check your "list" for the day the balloon goes up!

Look what happened in the early colonies within United States in the 1700's.

It was mandated that you had to feed and billet the King's own in your houses at your expense.

It was one of the many causes of the Declaration of Independence and subsequent first American Civil War, called the Revolutionary War.

It also sparked the 3rd Amendment to the Constitution, RIGHT BEHIND THE 2nd AMENDMENT

Perhaps it should not come to pass in Britain in 2012. Oh that is right! They were all disarmed some time ago! Tell me again why the government should restrict/prohibit any type of firearm ownership?

Consider this a lesson learned.

Hence why I will never be turning in my arms. Ever. To anyone. Better Dead than Red.

Oh....and FU Romneybots in case you are reading.

“Despite having paid taxes all their lives, pensioners will be forced to run down their wealth while those that have squandered their money or lived off the state will get free care.”

In other words, they’re going to introduce something like Medicaid.

“local councils”...Gee is this anything like the “Rural Councils” established under the radar by BHO? You’d better believe the stage is being set in plain view.

You can read “local councils” as “municipal governments,” more or less. Perhaps a British-based freeper can chime in.

That is very likely to happen to all the foreclosed properties. HUD will confiscate them and rent them to ‘poor’ single mothers.

The elderly in ‘underwater’ homes will be forced into 1 BR HUD apartments.

Revolving poverty.

No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in manner to be prescribed by law.
Amendment Three of the U.S. Constitution.

Don't get your hopes up, Obama HATES the Constitution!:

Like I said, Buy Lots of Ammo Today (BLOAT), and make a "list" of the enemies of the Constitution and America.

What an inhumane World we’ve become. I guess the novelists who wrote about a bleak future were right.

And thank you for the picture of a great actor.

Council housing is call Public Housing in US. Remember Cabrini Green and other failed PH projects in US. Why don’t they help the elderly get suitable renters, retain their own homes, make a little money, and have someone in house in case of emergencies. Or leave them alone to get their own renters if they need money.

Yes. Buckingham Palace subdivided with drywall would make such peachy Single Room Occupancy units.

Local councils are borough or county councils. Pretty much your equivalent of town councils, but spreading into the countryside and with a limited ability to tax to provide services using the council tax - our equivalent of property taxes.

Oddly enough, this whole idea started in my own borough. My neighbor across the road got what she thought a good deal on her home from the council - free maintenence, free rent and a lump sum in return for the deeds. Now they are trying to move her out to sheltered accomodation to clear the house for some lowlife scum.

Cheap rental Council Housing (subsidized by local County governments) were small ‘town house’ communities built after WWII for displaced families after bomb damage mostly in cities and towns - close to jobs and transportation.

Just a few years ago - those apartments were offered for sale to long-term residents who had paid nominal rent for 25-30+ years. They were snapped up at reasonable prices. Have a nephew who purchased a home for his father and moved in after his dad died. Fixed and modernized.

It appears that some elderly residents may be still renting 3-4 BR apartments while younger families are on waiting lists.

Housing value depreciation is driving this re-assessment and people are at the mercy of the ‘Council’ locals.

Yeah, I noticed that. The solution may be loosening restrictions so that the elderly can rent out rooms in their house. Or encourage the younger relatives of these elderly to move in, regardless of crowding level.
But no, the solution is not to find a way to consolidate generations into one household but to have the STATE take the house and gain one more carrot to offer to the dependent masses.

Do they no longer have lampposts in England? Is there a shortage of rope? WHY IS THIS SORT OF THING TOLERATED?

“The British Empire was a far more formidable opponent...”

Maybe. I sometimes think that one of the biggest miscalculations made regarding the War Between the States was that people on both sides forgot they weren’t going up against the British, Mexicans, Indians or Moroccan Pirates. They were going up against people like themselves, people who whipped those others.
