Clint Eastwood's 'Halftime in America' Ad a New Ballgame
Forbes ^ | 02/06/2012 | Christopher Correa

This year another advertisement entered a crowded field, without pomp but predicated on real-world circumstance–Chrysler’s “Halftime in America,” featuring a weathered but resolute Clint Eastwood. He isn’t exactly selling anything in the spot, which is filmed to resemble a political ad if it were produced by Paul Haggis (Eastwood’s collaborator on Million Dollar Baby and the director of Crash). Instead, he aims to jolt, then scold, but ultimately soothe the viewer. First seen walking from the shadows of a hazy football game, he hunches his shoulders walks with a tired grace. Speaking in a voice so gravelly you could walk across it, he declaims that the American auto industry’s primary focus has been compromised by the “fog, division, discord and blame,” but America “knows how to come from behind to win.”

That’s true but it was put back as a public offering and has been profitable. On GM we took a bath. Ford did not take the money and has done great. I applaud them for using good management to fix their situation.

This is about American resolve, hard work, innovation and guts.

Who in the hell do you think you're kidding? It was about taking money from taxpayers at the point of a gun,(many of which make a small fraction of what GM employees make) and giving it to the democrat voting unions.

“This is about American resolve, hard work, innovation and guts.”

More like effective propaganda for perpetuating syndicalism with its corporate and union featherbedding.

If you want to actually SEE the ad, despite the NFL copyright police who have already blocked it on YouTube, go here (it’s below the Madonna hoopla):

http://entertainment.time.com/2012/02/06/madonna-clint-and-the-rest-of-super-bowl-xlvi-halftime/

Yes, the ad is promoting a “second half” for the bogus, muslim-oriented, tyrannical Hussein obama administration. PHOOEY to that!!!!

For the greatest ad in Super Bowl history, EVER, see:

I saw this ad as a justification of bale outs and a plea to re-elect BHO or we are domed. It made me want to vomit, even my “liberal” husband thought it was a bit over the top.

Sounds like Eastwood has become "Cool Hand Puke".

Pretty obviously a promo for BO and the Democrat unions and a far cry from Ronald Reagan’s “Morning in America.”

The Reagan ads are still memorable. The haunting “Bear in the Woods” ad was a masterpiece.

Chrysler is now under private ownership again.

So what? They got there on the taxpayers dime. FUC/F, FUGM, FUCE, FUBO...that's Chrysler Fiat, GM, Clint Eastwood and barak obama!

Magnificent girl thoroughly defiled by an ugly tattoo smack dab on the middle of her neck. What a ruin of God’s creation.

For me it came across as a promo for a "second half" of an Obama 8 year Presidency.

I agree and that's how I took it. Taxpayer money used to bail the company out, the company turns around, knowing where it's bread has been buttered and pays for a subtle message about the second half.

I doubt Detroit would air a message with the implication that the second half needs a new coach.

I also thought it was a brilliant subliminal message though, hopefully the viewers were too hammered to get it or, missed it altogether by trips to the bathroom and refrigerator.

Agreed. But I am gonna say that was probably just a temp tattoo, flocking the sponsors product, yeah?

Mega-dittos to that.

I was expecting to hear "I'm Barack Obama, and I approved this message" at the end of the ad.

Just as it was sure nice for NBC to offer Barack a campaign spot.

I don't remember but - was President Bush ever offered the chance to appear in the same kind of interview before the game? The other thing that struck me was that he was given the questions in advance as his answers were too crisp when compared to the stuttering, broken answers that he usually gives.
