(NewsOK) — White House Press Secretary Jay Carney explained that the number of people dropping out of the work force, which artificially depresses the unemployment rate, can be regarded as an “economic positive.”
“A lot of that is due to younger people getting more of an education, which is an economic positive,” Carney said. He had been asked what would happen when people “inevitably” raise the unemployment rating with their return to the work force.

I wonder if enrollment stats show any uptick at all or if Carney is just blowing smoke. Anyhow, even if there is an uptick, I would attribute it to the time tested strategy of young people entering a brutal job market to retreat to the ivory tower for another degree. This looks better than a two or three year gap on the resume. If dad is paying for it, it might be an ok plan. If it means drowning in more debt, maybe not so much.
Advanced study can pay quick dividends if someone with a degree in identity politics and grievance studies parlays it into an advanced barista certificate. Upward mobility for sure.
No. A lot of that is due to the food stamp president enabling 45,000,000 now on food stamps; a lot of that is having the govt writing all kinds of hand-out checks, creating a scarario where 50%+1 are on the government dole.

I met VC and PAVN soldiers who had more integrity than Carney. What does that say about Obama? (You can’t print it here, unfortunately).
I don’t think young people can afford to return to, or even initially enter, schools nowadays; even with the borrowing, if there is little hope of landing any kind of meaningful work, the schooling makes no sense.
Believe me, if there is a “hot” major right now, a lot of time and effort is being sent to have the work in question done to Asia; certainly specializing in it 2 to 4 years down the road won’t be much use. If the jobs are still here they’ll be done by H1-Bs.
