The political furor over President Obama's birth-control mandate continues to grow, even among those for whom contraception poses no moral qualms, and one needn't be a theologian to understand why. The country is being exposed to the raw political control that is the core of the Obama health-care plan, and Americans are seeing clearly for the first time how this will violate pluralism and liberty. ***

In late January the Health and Human Services Department required almost all insurance plans to cover contraceptive and sterilization methods, including the morning-after pill. The decision came after passionate lobbying by religious groups and liberals from the likes of Planned Parenthood, amid government promises of compromise.

In the end, Planned Parenthood won. HHS chose to draw the rule's conscience exceptions for "religious employers" so narrowly that they will not be extended to religious charities, universities, schools, hospitals, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other institutions that oppose contraception as a matter of religious belief.

The Affordable Care Act itself is ambiguous about what counts as a religious organization that deserves conscience protection. Like so much else in the rushed bill, this was left to administrative discretion. What the law does cement is the principle that the government will decide for everyone what "health care" must mean. The entire thrust of ObamaCare is to standardize benefits and how they must be paid for and provided, regardless of individual choices or ethical convictions.

It says “Congress shall pass no law”.

It doesn’t say the President cannot requlate.

We sit here watching the end of the United States as a Republic and the final rise of the post Constitutional democracy in name only. In name only because it is in fact a dictatorship not a democracy, the vote only counts when it matches the will of the dictator. First Amendment goes to hell, religious beliefs are dead to the dictator. The courts of Kalifornication again dismiss the voters (no democracy here), the military is dismissed or disgraced, cops are being schooled on how to deal with people angry about “laws”. Anything that goes along with the Second Amendment smacks of unlawful resistance and it will be squashed.

Texans have been denied the vote in the primary again because the minorities won’t sign the agreement for redistricting to suit them. Gaining two congressional seats is not enough for them. What I want to know is why they have “standing” when there has been no injury. That is what we are told when we try to file lawsuits about what is coming that will hurt us such as obastard care. We have no standing in that or the legality of his candidacy because we have not been injured. Oh, I forgot, the law only applies to select people and only as it favors the left. Justice is DEAD.

The United States of our youth is dead and the one in the future of our children doesn’t exist. The day will come soon when we are told that our house is too big, we have too much in savings, we own too much land and each will be taken from us by “legal” means. You don’t own your property so long as the taxes can be raised at will and they can be RAISED AT WILL. Protest avenues are a farce.

I think there is only one good thing that is coming of all this. I will not die of old age if I stay in this land, I will get another chance to die in battle. It is time for the showdown.

The liberal Catholic bishops have consistently supported every left-wing, feel-good big government policy. Now they’re shocked that the big government they supported is turning on them? What did they expect? Did they think the alligator would never get around to eating them last?

I agree with you 100% !!

The Bishops may well win this round (having lost the first one when Obamacare was passed) because by framing the issue as freedom of religion they have tapped into a meme that is easily demgoged. Regrettably, this will not lead them to an epiphany regarding the need to keep these areas of life involving religion out from under government regulation (except perhaps to avoid public harm).

I don’t know whether to send my Bishop a copy of “Dr. Faustus” or “The Devil and Daniel Webster” -— or just a postcard saying “When you lie down with dogs you get fleas”.
