'Your days are numbered,' U.S. official tells al-Assad

(CNN) -- As violence raged in Syria, U.S. officials made clear Tuesday that the United States has lost patience with President Bashar al-Assad.

"Your days are numbered," U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said in comments directed at the Syrian leader. "It is time and past time for you to transfer power responsibly and peacefully."

Her remarks came as two senior administration officials told CNN that, while the U.S. focus remains on exerting diplomatic and economic pressure on Damascus, the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command have begun a preliminary internal review of U.S. military capabilities in order to prepare options in the event that President Obama calls for them.

Still, one of the officials said, "This remains a campaign to apply economic and diplomatic pressure." Neither official was willing to be identified because neither is authorized to talk to the news media.

Doesn't register with this gang of international meddlers any more than the fate of Christianity in Iraq did with the last bunch.

Isolationism looks better and better every day.

Not that Syria has a great reputation, but the current administration seems to want to run the table and destabilize every somewhat sturdy middle east regime.

Decades of thoughtful and tenous US diplomacy, foreign aid, triangulation and intervention going out the window in a couple of years of amateurs in power.

Pssst! Barak! Did you know that Syria has a military alliance with Russia? How do you plan on military action without triggering a Russian response? Think of that?

Somehow I don't think Assad is overly impressed with this idiot slut Rice. Skank Halfbright and slut Clinton never made any impression on mideast men, so why would this intellectual cripple.

Even the mere suggestion that Obama and team are considering intervention in Syria alarms me greatly.

There are significant geopolitical implications on top of the fact the USA has NO DOG IN THIS HUNT.

Just like we have no interest in Afghanistan.

Except this time some powerful countries do have a stake in Syria...it's a cog in the Russian/Turk/Israeli/Greek/Cyprus conundrum.

We can only find bad things there.

There no oil. It doesn't sit at the nexus of any geopolitical interest of the USA.

None.

We have gone over a cliff and Obama is laughing as he floors it.

Susan Rice is a Communist agitator.

She’s doing the job Obama wants her to do: removing secular dictators and replacing them with Muslim fanatics.

So they burn down all the churches and kill the Christians? There’s too many Christians in the world anyway, Obama sez . . . .

Besides just for fun,, why would we send the US military there? Is there any corner of earth not deemed as a critical national interest?

What in Syria is worth ONE American soldiers death? We either wind up with the current dictator, or install a new dictator. An America friendly government is not an option.

Assad glibly responded, “So are Obama’s days in office.”

There is nothing that the United States or the EU can do but watch as Iranian troops and personnel bolster the Syrian troops

I thought I read a thread where Syrian Christians
were siding with Assad.
This could get complicated.

I don’t think we should get involved militarily, but I do think we have a dog in this fight.

If Iran loses its hold over Syria, that’s a very good thing for the region. It could be the only ‘not really bad’ thing in the ME during Obama.

I heard someone with relatives in Syria call the Michael Savage show, saying that the Syrian Christians and Jews were on Assad’s side.

It’s the Islamofascists that are the opposition ... The Won’s people.
