GLENDALE - A pregnant 17-year-old girl takes matters into her own hands when an intruder tries to break into her house.
It happened near 75th Avenue and Glendale about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say at first the burglar rang the door bell. When no one answered, he tried to break in by going through a doggie door.
What the burglar didn't realize -- a pregnant teen was there to meet him with a gun.
He tried to put his hand inside and I guess she shot him in his hand, says neighbor Liz Zamora.
The teen fired at the burglar, but police aren't sure whether or not he was hit. The suspect, described as a black male wearing jeans and a hoodie, took off and is still on the loose.
As for the victim, she is shaken but ok, and due to give birth any day now.

This sounds like national headline material to me. It probably would have made national news if she had killed the intruder.

I hope it wasn’t that Dog Whistler guy that she shot.

Not your typical doggie ping story, but of potential interest to dog owners...

This problem takes care of itself at my house. I have the biggest dog door they make. A person could very easily crawl right through. However, I have three pitbulls and a doberman that sleep in the house at night.

A friend of mine had someone enter her house through the doggie door. It wasn't a burglar, it was a drunk woman who thought she was entering her parent's house down the street. My friend woke up to some unusual noise and when she went to investigate the woman was already passed out on her couch. I don't have a doggie door and I am not getting one even though I understand that they now have electronic doggie doors. Your dog wears a collar that allows him enter but I still don't want one.

Criminals are so dumb! If the dog door is big enough to crawl through, doesn’t it stand to reason that a big bad-ass dog is on the other side waiting to take a bite out of crime?

I just love a story like this.
This is almost exactly like that story recently of the very young woman - with a kid - who was robbed and shot the guy. Where was that? OK? CO? Literally mid-country.
Too bad the girls are a bit too young for being pregnant, but at least they have their heads on enough to fight back and protect theirs.

Except here, we hear of no dog. A human shot him.

She may have had the dog as a child (but it is now deceased), or the previous owner may have owned a dog.

There would be 180 pounds of German Shepherd awaiting anyone trying to get through the doggie door at my home.

I hope he was hit! It would serve him right!
