Here’s a personal example of how bad the license for illegals program is:
A friend of mine manages a hotel in New Jersey. His maintenance person asked for a week off and when he returned this man, in his extremely broken English explained to my friend Dave that he had gone to NM to get a driver’s license!
Dave asked why he didn’t just get one in NJ. He stated that the social security number he’d used to get his job was not really his and that he was in fact, illegal! Now my friend is flabbergasted that he’s mistakenly hired an illegal immigrant, but more upset that this man has a driver’s license.
As Dave told me, the man cannot read English and speaks it with great difficulty. He said the idea of this man on the highway in a car scares the heck out of him!
Of course, now this man does not have his job with my friend. I asked Dave why the man stated that he was illegal and his only explanation was that the guy was so excited over his NM driver’s license that the truth came tumbling out.
Turns out that the man had paid some company to drive him out here on a bus with a bunch of other illegals and they all got licenses here in NM over the course of 2 days and then went back.
I’d suggest that you send your story to the Governor’s office and let her use it to hammer the state senate into trying to do something right (yeah, sure they will).
Your friend should have turned him in for applying for a job with a fake SS#; your friend is lucky he wasn’t penalized as an innocent player in it.
