HANCEVILLE, Alabama, February 9, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Lawyers for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) say that the broadcasting network has taken the Obama administration to court over a mandate forcing Catholic employers to pay for birth control, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty announced that it had filed suit Thursday morning on behalf of EWTN, considered the largest religious media network in the world.

“The federal government cannot force people to violate their religion like this,” said Mark Rienzi, Senior Counsel at the Becket Fund and a constitutional law professor at the Catholic University of America. “Mother Angelica founded EWTN to spread the teachings of the Catholic Church—not to betray them.”

Now, we are slowly finding “what’s in it” and this nation is learning about tyranny — up close and personal

How long before we are faced with a state religion?

The Church of Socialism, all others must beg.

If my Jesus tattoo became infected, would a Muslim doctor or hospital be forced to treat me?

Would you want them to, infidel? I don't think I would.

I hope it is not lost on people that the abortion mandate by the current Administration and usurpation of religious freedom was issued 9 months before election day, 2012.

-Health care on Christmas
-Oil rig explosion on Earth Day
-Signing the NDAA on New Year’s Eve—the last of American citizens as free people entitled to legal representation and trial
-The anti-religious abortion mandate 9 months prior to election day/day after

These people enjoy gutting the US on significant days.

If people search, they’ll find articles and flyers like this: http://foxx.house.gov/uploads/032410%20Senate%20Health%20Care%20Bill%20Expands%20Abortion.pdf

“Senate bill H.R. 3590 is the most massively pro-abortion piece of legislation ever approved by Congress.”

That was Christmas, 2009. Don’t tell me they didn’t know. And don’t tell me the Christmas vote wasn’t intentional.

According to Catholicism.org 54% of Catholics voted for Obama.

I agree with you. It’s sad that so many had to learn the hard way that votes and elections have consequences. I wonder how many will pull the lever for Obama again in November.

The tragedy here is that all of us, not just the Catholics or other religions, ALL CITIZENS should be up in the air about mandated coverages.

The rest of us are already forced to provide coverage for contraceptives, viagra, psychiatric care, and other insured events that we may not have chosen to have in our policies.

States have been mandating coverages for years. It’s wrong, and anti-choice.

By only complaining about the religious aspect, are we not accepting that it’s ok to limit the freedoms of the rest of us?

It’s wrong for the state to mandate coverage and it’s wrong for the federal government to mandate coverage. Actually, it’s wrong to not allow us to purchase our health insurance across state lines.

It would be far less egregious to mandate that tires, brake jobs, and oil changes be covered on your auto insurance, because at least you know you’ll will in the end need these things-not necessarily so with say, psychiatric care in the case of health insurance.

The whole thing is messed up, not just for religions but for everyone.

Yes! I knew Fr. Pavone was going to sue them, but it looks like EWTN got in there first!

I wonder how many will pull the lever for Obama again in November.

Too many Catholic voters are swayed more by their union newsletter or their favorite Government giveaway program than by their faith.

Hello. I’m mostly a reader and not a poster here and I’m a fairly new Catholic that did not vote for Obama. I think it would be safe to assume that most Catholics will not pull the lever for Obama. Some kooks like Pelosi may but I think it’s safe to say he just lost the majority of the Catholics. Pelosi can say she’s going to stick with Catholics and support the mandate, (trying to create a false image that most Catholics are on that side), but what she really means is she’s going to stick it to Catholics, or rather, she’ll try to. They’ll not win this one and the stink from this will never wash off.
