Oakland City Council's disappointing failure

The Occupy movement isn't the only Oakland organization without leadership.

Anyone catch the Oakland City Council in action earlier this week?

The council failed to pass a resolution calling on police to enforce all available laws to prevent another shutdown of the Port of Oakland or another violent demonstration. The seaport terminal has been shut down twice by Occupy Oakland protests since November.

Council members Ignacio de la Fuente, Libby Schaaf, Jane Brunner and Desley Brooks voted in favor of the resolution, which also would have required Occupy protesters to obtain permits for their marches and rallies.

But it did not get the required five-vote majority needed to pass. Nancy Nadel and Rebecca Kaplan voted against the measure - no big surprise there. Kaplan spouted some nonsense about gun violence while Nadel wandered off into an infomercial for restorative justice.

Once upon a time, Oakland was the west coast city of broad shoulders.

Then, liberal dim bulbs and loons took over.

“Once upon a time, Oakland was the west coast city of broad shoulders.
Then, liberal dim bulbs and loons took over. “

That was back in 1977 when Oakland became a BRA (Black-Run Admin) with the election of Lionel Wilson. He was followed by notables like Riles, Red Ron Dellums, Jerry the Fairy Brown, and now Kwan. The people have spoken in Oakland, and they speak like their brothers in Detroit. Oakland is now a West Coast version of that failed city.

Oakland was once the home of a huge US Army depot for goods destined for the Far East and South East Asia. In the 1950s, 60s and into the 70s, if you had a Duce and a half, Jeep or some other OD green equipment on the other side of the International Dateline, it came through Oakland.
