Is the video on 8mm? The first camcorders, shoulder mount devices, were available in 1985. Zer0’s college years started in 1979 and ended in 1991. It is possible a video camera captured him.

8mm Video could also mean 8mm movies (i.e. Kodak film)

I had an excellent portable Panasonic VHS recorder in 1980, and it was at least second generation.
