How disastrous was Santorum’s endorsement of Specter? Can you say ‘Obamacare’?
Legal Insurrection ^ | 12 2011 | William A. Jacobson

Posted on 02/10/2012 6:53:53 PM PST by Fred

How disastrous was Specter prevailing over Toomey in 2004?

In April 2009, Specter switched parties giving the Democrats a 60th vote in the Senate when Al Franken was declared the winner in Minnesota and sworn in after court challenges in July 2009.

Specter put that vote to good use casting the 60th vote for cloture on Obamacare in late December 2009.

Having enabled Obamacare to proceed to a full vote, Specter cast the 50th vote for Obamacare (guaranteeing passage because Biden could cast a tie breaker):

They’re nothing if not prompt. Voting has begun on HR 3590, the Senate’s health care bill. It only needs 50 votes to pass; the only suspense is whether or not it will receive all 60 Democratic votes. C-SPAN is using the special running tally it reserves for important votes.

That’s it. Arlen Specter, the former Republican, secures the 50th vote needed for passage.

Does this mean Rick Santorum was responsible for Obamacare? No, not directly, and certainly not by design.

There were tons of things that made Obamacare possible. How about 8 years of George W Bush with uncontrolled spending, idiotic world-policing wars and expansion of government? Bush made the GOP so sickening to America that they elected a Kenyan Muslim to the White House. You can’t put Obamacare on Santorum. Many, many years of the GOP making terrible decisions made Obamacare possible.

He was prevailed upon by the Party and loyalty to one who helped him get elected. What was Newt's excuse with Dede? They both have some warts. They both have followers who will remain home or vote for Romney if their guy falls out. Why should we spend our time railing on either of them?

Yes, thanks to Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney for playing a major role in either the foundation for or the vote for OBAMACARE. Socialized medicine comes to America. NO thanks to either one of them. GO NEWT!

heh. Diffusion of responsibility among the anonymous masses is a well-known psychological defense against accountability. "Everyone is to blame, so no one (especially me and my buddy) is responsible." Sorry junior. No sale.

Boy, Santorum must have had a hell of an impact. To read these articles, looked like he elected Specter single handedly. He endorsed Specter for the Supreme Court judges, the conservative ones we now have.

If we really want to blame someone for Obamacare it should be the mainsteam media that elected him.

What is Santorums excuse for backing Romney? what is Santorums excuse for voting for Sonia Sotomyer for the circuit court under Clinton? that is 3 strikes on Santorum.

A lot of people on FR actually backed Romney over McCain. A circuit court judge? Really? You have to dig that deep to find something as to dig into votes that occur in groups?

Still, what does this accomplish? Those who might have been uncomfortable with Newt were hit for knocking the “front runner” against Romney. You might want to take a look at the most recent polling.

Uh yuh.

Don't y'all forget GWB - a local hero here on FR in the day - kissed Arlen's ample behind as well. Oh, and remember when Sarah actually ran with Juan McPain The RINO King we all despised? For that matter, try naming a single careerist soul in DC that hasn't been seen chumming with the Sphincter over the last 50 years - hard ain't it?

Please people, FReepers of all people, let's be honest. We all know that politics makes strange bedfellows but usually, thank God, it's a one night stand. If this is your big beef, hang it up. If not, please post pictures of the blood on his hands.

I agree - they are both lying hypocrites.

The only reason a Santorum supporter would have to “dig” deep is if they really look at what he did while he served in DC which is when he voted for Sotomyer ( a liberal activist judge) that now sits on the SCOTUS. Even the rino McCain voted NAY on her! of course if you prefer not to look into who Santorum really is and just judge him on what he says that is up to you.
While I am at it..thought I would toss in a few other issues of concern Little Ricky voted for..Labor
Voted against National Right to Work Act
Voted against Real of Davis-Bacon Prevailing union wages
Voted for Alexis Herman to be Secretary of Labor

Voted twice in support of Fedex Unionization
Voted against allowing a waiver of Davis-Bacon in emergency situations.
Voted for minimum wage increases six times here here here here here and here
Voted to require a union representative on an IRS oversight board.
Voted to exempt IRS union representative from criminal ethics laws.
Voted against creating independent Board of Governors to investigate IRS abuses.
