That POS Snarl’n Arlen also made Anita Hill a national sensation and nearly destroyed the most reliable conservative on the Supreme Court. I cannot forgive Santorum for this gross demonstration of poor judgment.
There was a bar around the corner from the CPAC meet today...a moderate, liberal rino walked in ...bartender said, “what’ll you have Mitt?”
Can you say Justices Roberts and Alito?
Who did you back, McCain? That is the choice that gave us Obama.
Only one thing I am 100% sure of, we'd better all get behind someone soon and once we do the anti-whoevers better back off. Otherwise it will be four more years of Obama.
Also, this isn't "news", it's a blog opinion column. And it wasn't written today, it was written back in December of 2011.
We need to vote Santorum apparently, because he is like a magician in all the miracles he accomplished.
I can’t find who Gingrich endorsed in that primary.
How about “pro life” democRATs like Bart Stupak? I lay most of the blame for Obama care passing on his dumb ass.
Reposted article we’ve argued over before at length...
Many on this thread along with the author once again have no shortage of leaving out facts and logic in your analysis. First of all, what Specter did 5 years later by going totally off the deep end was not known in 2004 and not how he was viewed on the whole. Specter’s history in 2004 included being the architect of undermining the smear job against Clarence Thomas and getting his nomination through, and being the person who directed his staff to gather complete information on the bureaucratic mess and nightmare Hillarycare would mean for the nation and his staff used this to make a chart which became an illustration of how horrific Hillarycare would be and is credited by some for helping to have been a great asset in turning the tide against this legislation. Bob Dole called the chart his ‘best friend’ at the time as it was a great way of showing how outrageous Clinton’s nationalized health scheme was. That’s part of the prism through which Specter was viewed in 2004...of course we had “Scottish Law”, Judge Bork, and a number of negative things to go along with it that we remember well and ranted about on this forum over the years...
In addition, Specter provided staff and his own political capital to help elect Santorum twice to the Senate in hotly contested races.
This is not a defense of Specter - he is entitled to no defense as he stabbed everyone in the back and undermined even his own past work by being as selfish and opportunistic as one can get with what he did in 2009 - but in 2004, given the help Specter had given Santorum, his support in return was understandable even if not what we would have preferred at the time.
This is also nothing to make Newt like a better candidate if that’s what the point of this is - we can dig up plenty of things to write similar articles...why are we engaging in this circular firing squad and doing the work of the left for them?

The guy’s an asshole, and he knows it. He had a chance to make it right, and he failed.
Oh yes you can...if you lived in Pa and watched what happened here you'd understand. It is what it is and what is stated even if you don't like the taste of it.
Geeeez, for all the blame being passed around, remember it was Olympia Snowe who cast the vote to allow the bill to come out of committee to the floor. The committee had to have one vote from the Republican side to “pass” the bill out for cloture on the Senate floor. All Republicans except Snowe voted “No”. Had she voted with the rest of the Republicans, we would not have Obamacare today. It would have been stymied in committee forever.
Yep - "everyone's been doing it, so no one is responsible..." [Had to reword it in a dumbed down format in case the 2 conservatives from Rio Linda show up].
We have the art perfected! D$#n, we’re good at it!
There were a whole lot of "conservatives" who worked against him because of the Specter endorsement.
You can make a case that if Doug Hoffman won in NY-23 we wouldn't have had Obamacare either. Oh, if only the GOP establishment supported him.
That highlights the concern regarding Newt.
He repeatedly wanders off the rails, taking anti-conservative positions - supporting Dede Scozzafava, Pelosi and Global Warming, trashing Paul Ryan and his budget proposal, working to promote Freddie Mac (as a Historian!), calling conservatives "extremists", "cannibals" and "jihadists" "who push too hard to cut the size and scope of the federal government"*.
When called on it he apologizes, saying "I made a mistake."
Then he turns around and does something equally outrageous.
In his mind if he says he made a mistake that puts the issue to rest, but he (and his supporters) label others as Flip-Floppers if they change a position. Newt doesn't Flip-Flop, he just admits he made a mistake.
What if Newt actually was elected president and ran off the rails again on the issues of global warming and cap-and-trade? He would be back on the sofa with Pelosi telling us we just didn't understand the complexities of the issues.
Then, at re-election time he would say "I made a mistake, let's just move along."
