Newt Gingrich to Canada: Forget China, bank on Republicans
Politico ^ | 2/10/12 5:20 PM EST | PATRICK REIS

Newt Gingrich has a promise for Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper: If you wait for the U.S. elections, Republicans will come through for you on the Keystone XL pipeline.

“My message to Prime Minister Harper: ‘You do not need a partnership with the Chinese,’” Gingrich said during his turn in the Conservative Political Action Conference spotlight Friday afternoon. “If you give us a few months, … when we beat Obama on election night, we will approve [the Keystone XL pipeline] on Jan. 20.”

Gingrich said he would sign an executive order approving Keystone on his first day in office.

Harper’s government has overtly courted China as an energy customer since the Obama administration rejected the oil sands pipeline, and Gingrich and the rest of the GOP field have made the most of it on the campaign trail.

“Obama has been an anti-American energy president, and every American pays the price every time they go to a gas station,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich also used his speech to push the “bold solutions” he repeatedly used to pit himself against “the Republican establishment” — a just-below-the-surface jab at primary front-runner Mitt Romney.

Gingrich also repeated his pledge to abolish the EPA and Energy Department, saying the latter “has been a total failure since it was founded.”

Congress will pass a law stating that the Courts have NO JURISDICTION over the pipeline issue.

President Gingrich will sign that legislation.

The pipeline will then be built!

So Canada is supposed to rely on Americans who elected Obama in the first place to support a republican? That’s not a winning combination. Until America actually elects a republican president, they shouldn’t expect other countries to hurt their own interests while waiting for it to happen. Canada has a right to sell resources to China. They tried to sell to America first as they always do and Obama gave them the finger.

LOL Newt should forgo the usual Inauguration Parade and use red lights and siren getting back to the White House. He is going to have a busy day if he does all he promised.

I have an idea he’d do just that, but Calista looks like the type who wouldn’t pass up the balls and crap.

True, nobody expects to dictate to Canada. But it can't hurt to remind them that there is a rising tide of discontent with obama's crippling energy policy, and a huge mass of Americans who want to do business with our neighbor. And letting the chinese camel into the North American tent will serve no one's interests in the long run.

“My message to Prime Minister Harper: ‘You do not need a partnership with the Chinese,’” Gingrich said...

Well that was dumb.
Canadians will see that as Gingrich telling Harper what to do.

Vote Santorum.

Ping.

The Chinese camel’s head came into the North American tent in the late 80’s, and it sleeps in the master bedroom now.

Anyway, we have enough oil for you with some left over for China.

The Canadians will get a better netback for their oil here vs. China. I don't see much being loaded out at Kitimat.

Yes, we would rather sell it to you, too.

Kitmat would be nice, but we are transporting crude just fine for now.

Red is crude. Dark blue is natural gas.

Thanks for your intelligent reply.
I didn't say he was.
I said Canadians would think he was.

Look, you're the one who started with the "intelligent" comment.

So then if Newt WASN'T telling Harper what to do, then why on earth would you think that Canadians would think that Newt WAS telling Harper what to do??

You’ll see it being loaded once the Northern Gateway Pipeline is completed.

As a Canadian, I took that as an open invitation to interfere in your elections. (Wish we could!)

Regarding China, one thing that no one yet has speculated about (that I know of, in any case) is whether or not Harper is trying to ween the Chinese off of Middle Eastern oil (Iran’s especially). High profile people in Harper’s government have been ruminating quite loudly about Iran being the greatest threat in the world today. And China isn’t the only Asian market that could potentially use our oil and, as a consequence, be less reliant on the Middle East for their energy needs.

Because of the way that the CBC, and outlets like the Toronto Star would use/twist it in their campaigns to demonize both Conservatives and Republicans.

As in the US, I would bet that more people here in Canada are following the death of Whitney Houston, than are following the death of your Constitution.

LOL, Welcome to FR oldweesie!
I'm Canadian too.

Good point. It would make economic sense.
