Gingrich ‘flawed, but he’s our guy’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | February 12, 2012 | Craig Schneider

.........Verniece Zorn, a 70-year-old retired printing company worker, said she made a promise to herself years ago that if Gingrich ever ran for president, she would support him. She liked the newsletters he had sent her as a Georgia congressman. Zorn, who identifies herself as an evangelical Christian, said she has looked beyond Gingrich’s multiple marriages and acknowledged infidelities, and she believes he is the most capable leader in the race.

“None of us are perfect. We all have our little hang-ups,” said Zorn, of Stockbridge. “He’s my first choice. I believe he knows more than all of them put together.”

As for issues the voters care about, the economy trumps everything else, including tax reform, health care, the national debt and social issues such as same-sex marriage and abortion. That’s true virtually no matter how you slice the electorate, the poll found. Some groups — nonevangelicals, those without a college degree — are especially focused on economic issues, but no group rates other concerns above the economy.

The poll, conducted for the AJC and the Georgia Newspaper Partnership, surveyed 625 likely GOP primary voters Monday through Wednesday. Gingrich was the choice of 43 percent of respondents, followed by Mitt Romney with 29 percent, Rick Santorum with 12 percent and Ron Paul with 6 percent.

Georgians will go to the polls on March 6, Super Tuesday. With 76 GOP delegates, Georgia is the biggest prize among the 10 states voting that day....

Romney polled better than Gingrich among voters who said they were not evangelical and those who described themselves as moderate or liberal, but those groups were in the minority.....

Interesting stuff, I guess, but where's the relevance?

Are you on some private channel or wavelength?

"Dog whistle" politics that not everyone can hear or understand?

There may be a reason for that.

Other conservative blogg sites are speculating that Obama may have purposefully gone after Catholic issues, such as contraception, sterilization and abortion in medical insurance, in order to bait and drive up Santorum’s visibility on social issues.

The reason? Obama doesn’t want his opponents emphasizing how awful the economy is right now. It isn’t improving, jobs are scarce, and big labor is making political moves under the radar, moves Santorum will ignore because he supports labor unions.

Great pic, but it needs two great economists who endorsed Newt: Art Laffer and Thomas Sowell...

They are all flawed, every last one of them. But, Gingrich is the leader we need to take us in the direction we need to go if the country is to survive.

I agree. I'd much rather have it out in the open.

Certainly some transgressions are worse than others. So if a politician has some particularly bad ones, he'd probably be wise to keep them secret. (This wisdom is not lost on the politicians.)

I have far more faith in Newt’s seeing the light than Santorum’s sainthood!
I have known really good cops and pastors who started out badly, but had their “come to Jesus moments” and were all the better for their not-so-perfect beginnings because they could relate to and knew the dark side far better than those who had been “perfect” and wanted to make everybody else like their perceived selves.
The latter, I find scarey.

How could Mitt take his oath of office seriously after he has told so many bald faced lies to the voters?

No.

Obama's war on pro-lifers and Christians is at the direct bidding of his Feminist Overlords.

I think people are less put off by Newt’s divorces than by his infidelities during his marriages. Maybe he’s just a man with too much love inside him.

Men cheat on impulse. Even good men sometimes have poor impulse control.
Women I believe cheat because they’re bored or angry. A marriage may survive the impulsiveness of a man or the anger of a woman. I’ve never seen one survive the bored wife.
Just my opinion.
It does however, prompt the question; does Newt have proper impulse control?

Same here. I've been a Gingrich fan for years. (And I've taken no small about of heckling right here on FR for it!)

After reading Gingrich's book, To Save America,I became even more convinced that Gingrich thoroughly comprehends the danger our county faces, and knows the path back to our founding principles. I am delighted to finally have the opportunity to cast my vote for him
