Sarah Palin at CPAC: It is her Party
HumanEvents ^ | Sunday February 12, 2012 | Tony Lee

And on a day when Palin reportedly generated more enthusiasm than every presidential candidate combined who spoke at CPAC and owned the room and conference, one could not wonder how many who were listening to the speech were coming to the realization that Palin should be the GOP nominee for president much in the same way the majority in attendance at Kemper Arena in Kansas City in 1976 at the Republican National Convention, in their hearts, knew that Ronald Reagan -- and not Gerald Ford -- was the rightful standard-bearer of bold conservatism.

As I listened to her speak, I kept saying, “I wish she was running.”

"IMO she looked at the poll numbers that had been set up by the press, who were after her for years and felt that swimming upstream in that current was probably impossible even for her."

I attribute the vicious lies, slander, libel, credible death threats against her and her family aided and abetted by the so-called main stream media whores.

We need her and badly. How can we protect she and her family.

I hope she calls Gov. Rick Perry.

You are correct and my sentiments about the lady match your own. For some reason she tends to raise her voice to a near shout and hasn't learned to rely on the words themselves or to make people almost strain to hear her as an effective rhetorical device. Her Idaho twang sounds like home to me but it also exaggerates the shrillness.

Lady Thatcher never shouted. She sometimes raised her voice but it came out as forceful but not shrill. She was most effective when her voice calmly cut like cold steel. A career in the British Parliament taught her well.

in 4 years Marco Rubio will be more than ready

4 more years of the Marxists and there will be no Republic and no elections. Look what they have done in only 3 and tell me that even a nation as great as ours can take 4 more years of constant assault. There will be either a war or quiet capitulation.

Ok, I'll make myself very, very unpopular. First, a "brokered convention" ain't gonna happen.

I told everyone eight months ago that Palin wasn't running. She didn't have an organization, didn't have staffers, didn't have state offices---all the things you have to have to win a nomination. People kept insulting me as "not understanding" her brilliant "unconventional" (the word most often used) campaign. So, I was right.

Now she has this incredible opportunity to STOP MITT. Stopping Romney will require ALL conservatives to unite behind either Santorum or Gingrich. Not a "not Romney." Not a "candidate to be named later."

There is a scene in "Hoosiers" where Gene Hackman introduces the guys who actually came out for the basketball team, not Jimmy, the star who hadn't shown up. "This is your team," he says. You either support them or not, but that's the team.

So does Palin endorse or really throw her resources behind anyone actually ON the team? No. She does the safe thing, throwing out another (great) red-meat speech---which like any of you I love---but which doesn't get use closer to actually defeating Obama. Rather, it has the effect of moving us one step closer to a Romney nomination.

This was one of our last opportunities to stop Romney, and it vanished in a rah-rah speech that had everybody standing and, in the end, Romney with the delegates.

What’s with all the doubters that we can defeat Obama?

IF we can beat Romney, and that’s a big IF, then we can beat Obama. It’s the same media machine, same lies and I think most Americans are catching onto it.

But we need to work our butts off to beat Romney first. And we also have to stop tearing our own guys apart. This is like politics 101, we build them up not tear them down.

I'm a huge Palin supporter. But she chose not to run. To me it was like a crack shot of a cowboy witnessing some banditos attacking a farmhouse but who just kept riding by when she could have stopped it.

America is being ransacked and raped by the Obamney gang.

If Mittens succeeds in buying the nomination then Governor Palin needs to run 3rd party. A speech is great, but it is not enough. We don't have the luxury of 4 more years, let alone 8. The time is now. The events of our present history unfolding require boldness.

My man Newt has the vision and the fire in the belly, but his vision is like that of a dog in a pickup driving through squirrel territory, and he does have baggage.

Step up, Sarah!

I, too, don’t care for the shrillness in Sarah’s voice - but that’s the only fault the woman has.

She’s passed relentless anal exams from her vicious opponents on her professional and personal life and they can’t come up with a damned thing to taint her. She is truly blessed and I think - she is the female version of Reagan!

OH, HOW I WISH SHE WAS RUNNING FOR POTUS!!!

I’ve been so disgusted with the last 3 weeks, I’m almost ready for a Tampa bloodbath with a Palin West 2012 result.

Mitt is the phony Mitt is and we all know it. Newt is the most talented and potentially best by far, but with many problems including a campaign that self immolated. Rickie is simply bereft of ability and not nearly as conservative as most have been fooled into thinking and outside the “prude” vote has zero national appeal.

Palin West looking better and better - and no political consultants allowed.

I disagree with you. I think the ‘Tea Party’ was the venue that Sarah considered (way back when) as the source of a grassroots campaign, but, two things happened. That slanderous vile book by Roger Ailes good friend, and Rick Perry. People can flame me if they wish, but, does anyone recall what Sarah's initial reaction was to the Perry announcement?

And given the contempt for Sarah, displayed by the Jon Stewart media and the PROUD GOP establishment, trashing her and her family, I consider it natural she would recognize only she could protect her family. This nation on the left and the high minded political establishment Alinskied her from seeking the nomination.

I would like to know the date when ‘we the people’ stopped being government and the political class became the ‘masters’ over US?

One more thing, when was the last election wherein the majority of the people has a say in who would win the nomination? Personally, I am sick of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and the Jon Stewart media selecting the GOP nominee.

You forgot one group: the GOP. They have chosen Romney and would have made it hell for Sarah. Look how they chose to turn the other cheek when Cain was being slandered. They would have done the same with Sarah. I am no longer a Republican. I call myself a conservative.

The problem is that Palin has not agreed to be the candidate.

Okay, the real problem is that Perry dropped out, due to the strife that Palin told us to avoid in her speech at CPAC.

The second problem is that Palin has played coy for too long, adding to the strife. This isn’t because Governor Palin is divisive, but because we are a cantankerous and factious bunch who eat our own.

I don’t believe Marco Rubio qualifies under the NBC requirement, nor do many people.

I think that’s why he refuses to answer when asked if he would consider a VP slot. He doesn’t come off as coy when asked, as so many do. He comes off as knowing he can’t qualify. JMO obviously, but I’ve read quite a bit on him and believe we’d have big problems if he were nominated.

Well thought out, and yes 'unpopular', analysis. I agree with most of your comments.

One question though: "Why is a convention nomination (not brokered) 'not gonna happen'?

“I would love to see Sarah reconsider but if she doesn’t Newt has shown me he is thinking in bright colors not soft pastels.”

In her words, Sarah has repeatedly “endorsed” Newt, and her husband contacting Newt and officially endorsing him was no accident. She has a contract with FNC which I believe precludes her from formally endorsing, but if one listens to her often, it’s clear whom she prefers of these candidates. She likes Newt’s fire, guts and strength.

Is Marco Rubio a Natural Born Citizen?

Depends on who you ask of course. By the Obama precedent and the Georgia ruling last week, probably so. By some others like Mark Levin, probably so. By some other stare decisis interpretations, probably not.
