THE Granville Police in St James seized a firearm along with one round of ammunition yesterday morning.

Reports from the Granville Police are that about 7:30 am, a team of police was on patrol along Tucker Main Road, when they searched a man and a homemade handgun and one 9 mm round was found on his person.

The man was arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, quick and coordinated efforts on the part of police personnel from the Flying Squad, the Motorised Patrol Division, the Denham Town Police and the Newport West Police led to the recovery of a motor vehicle within minutes of it being stolen, and the seizure of an illegal firearm along Industrial Terrace, Kingston 14.

Reports from the Denham Town Police are that about 4:30 pm, a man reported to them that he and a friend had gone to buy a motorcar in the area when they were held up and robbed by men posing as salesmen. Officers on patrol were alerted, and through coordinated efforts, they caught the robbers and recovered the motor vehicle – a 1996 Nissan Sunny.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a 9mm Smith Wesson and eleven 9 mm rounds. The items and the vehicle were seized.

Investigations continue.

Jamaica has some of the strictest gun control laws on the planet, and one of the highest murder rates in the world. Less than one of four murders is cleared.

have you ever been to Jamaica?

Don't step outside of your gated resort

I took a drive from the resort of El Ciboney to Kingston to see port Royal ... over the Blue Mountains ... with a hot woman

and I'm still breathing

...and one 9 mm round was found on his person.

Glad to see Barney is still around, but I didn't realize he'd retired to Jamaica.

Never have, nor do I desire to do so. Did your friend make it out alive as well?

yes I was stupid enough to rent a honda and a driver for the ride

He drove off the 'road' --- and I use that term very loosely --- and blew a tire in the mountains on the way back

DON'T GO OVER THE MOUNTAIN ... it's like the Mel Gibson movie Road Warrior

We went into the no-mans land where Bob Marley home/"museum" was located in the ghettos of Kingston on the way to Port Royal

Neither is worth the visit ... there was a mail strike and a demonstration at the Governor's house ... the tire change was interesting

They torched a freighter filled with tapioca while we were there ... something to see when they start pumping water on a burning hold of tapioca
