Christianity in general has done this. You can’t sell your soul and hope to keep your conscience.
while I attended Catholic churches, the Monsignor was really pushing “tolerance” for those among us that live in the shadows aka illegals.
He pressed us to volunteer and help them with their children while they worked and to make food and bring it to them. I asked him, what gives and he kept quoting scripture while I kept quoting Maryland law. Same in Virginia but the new guy spoke very openly about working against the unjust laws and pushing for more government assistance and supporting candidates that believed in that. Well, you got it.
The leadership has been in bed with leftists for a few generations and now they’re surprised when they turn on them. The US Catholic leadership is the very definition of useful idiots. They tried to replace the more difficult journeys of life, which we were taught strengthened the relationship with God, with free government stuff but forgot something we learned in religious instruction classes...

Well Padre, lie with dogs and you get fleas.

You are quite right, it indeed cuts across all denominations; and it has been especially damaging to those denominations who fail to distinguish clearly and well between the kingdom of God’s left hand (civil government, and the proper use of its primary God-given instrument, the sword/law - Romans 13:4; Matthew 22:17-21) and the kingdom of His right hand (the church, and the proper use of its primary God-given instrument, the keys/gospel - Matthew 16:19; 18:18-20; John 20:21-23). Because Catholicism has failed to distinguish clearly between these two manners of God’s rule over mankind, it has been particularly hard hit.
