SAN JOSE -- Police are looking for several men who stomped to death a 4-pound mini-Yorkshire terrier that was trying to protect its owner from an attack in San Jose over the weekend, authorities said.

The dog's owner said he was walking the 6-year-old dog, Shadow, at Winchester Boulevard and Colonial Way about 2 p.m. Saturday when three men approached and asked if he was a gang member.

The owner, a 32-year-old floor installer who asked that his name be withheld for safety reasons, said he had denied gang involvement, but the men attacked him anyway.

If they’d had time to think.

I meet two kinds of people with himself in tow.

The good people who come right up and want to love on him and the iffy ones who act like they’re afraid he might see into their souls.

And he can.

Happily, 90% are the good people.

I have a female Yorkie puppy, about 4 lbs., she is not a teacup. Someone would have to get past me and my 38 to get to my Yorkie.

Anyone who understands dog breeding also understands that lack of "recognition" of a breed doesn't mean a particular type of dog doesn't exist. After all there is no such thing as a Japanese Spitz or a Rat Terrier, right?

It also doesn't mean that Yorkies cannot be selected and bred for small size, given a popular name and sold. Unscrupulous breeders exist for ANY breed that can sell dogs for money, so why should it be any different for unusually small Yorkies? I expect some do it right, and the buyers get what they paid for, and some don't.

Describing the hazards of owning and/or breeding small Yorkies doesn't nullify their existence either. You may just as well say that evil breeders have created a flat faced dog that is prone to eye problems... Don't buy it people! You are being taken! Don't shell out your money even if you like Pugs!

And BTW - the only reference cited by your author is: http://www.moonlightkennels.com/. Did you go there? I tried to; it either doesn't exist, or more likely is the site that states at the top of their web page: "We at Moonlight Kennels and Transport breed only Siberian Huskies". Why would anyone cite them on Yorkies?

Yorkies are the best and very brave. My little Heather Quincy Macfeather gave me over 24 years of joy. She died in 1991 and I still miss her and treasure her memory.

The evil b@$t@rds that did this deed will rot in hell.

My little yorkie was named Bobby. I named him after a yorkie-like dog in an old English movie named 'Greyfrier's Bobby'. He was so cute and smart.

I think the Yorkie coat is so beautiful. It's like silk- and they don't shed.

I don’t know why they’d be afraid....

unless you told them that all dobermans are descendants of the dog which inspired the Cerberus legend. ;-)

I imagine that he’d also be a good Freepathon mascot. ;-)

Yes of course, I know nothing about the dog world or dog breeding.

I’m sure that for, say, an extra bone a week, your safety in your own bed can be secured. ;-)

Poor fellow, a minority Doberman resigned to beatings from his white mistress.

We need a Save the Dobermans campaign!

(On second thought, considering the acronym, perhaps that’s a bad idea. ;-) )

Nah.
He does that for free.
[in fact, he sleeps with his arm or head across my hips just to be sure nobody can get me]...:)

“Gentlemen of the jury, a man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow, and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains.”

Indeed.

Congratulations. The first step to recovery is to admit the problem.
