Mitt Romney's campaign in Michigan predicts a "strong finish" in the state's Feb. 28 presidential primary, but it stopped short of calling it a win for Romney in the state-by-state nominating contests.
"We're going to have a very strong showing 13 days from now," said Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette in a conference call Wednesday morning.
Schuette is Romney's Michigan campaign chairman.
"I'm very pleased with our position," Schuette said.
Asked to define what a "strong showing" is, Schuette said, "I'll let you know that Tuesday night."
Romney's campaign moves to Michigan in advance of the Feb. 28 primary and with Pennsylvania's Rick Santorum the latest GOP rival to surge in recent polling.
Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who was born in Michigan, is in Grand Rapids today and will be in Farmington tomorrow.
Schuette promised a lot of Romney "surrogates" would also be visible in the state, including Romney's wife Ann and former GOP candidate Tim Pawlenty.

After reading that, now I remember why I wanted Mike Bishop to win the AG race at convention.
“Strong showing” = we’re going to lose.
Wow. “Strong showing” means that Romney’s internal polls show he is down big time in Michigan.
A loss in Michigan, no matter how you spin it, means he has no momentum at all going into Super Tuesday. Santorum and Newt could very well clean up on delegates and deny a certain Mormon politician the nomination.
I prefer Newt but if Santorum goes the distance... I am okay with that.
Sorry Mitt, we’re printing up your eviction notice as we speak.
Maybe Mass. will claim you as a native son.
I prefer Newt but if Santorum goes the distance... I am okay with that.
I prefer Santorum but if Newt goes the distance....I am okay with that. Bottom line, we are lucky that we have two candidates that would get 99 percent of the votes for either one from both sets of supporters. Please don’t believe that garbage that Santorum supporters would go to Romney. That is not true at all. Santorum supporters are not going to vote for a guy who supports or supported abortion (depending on the day).
T-Paw? That turd could not deliver a single county in his own state for Romney just last week. What in the hell good could he do in Michigan?
Oh well, his master’s voice beckons.
