I remember Jimmy Carter well. He was the president in my coming of age era. Nobody could afford to buy a house and even people with fairly marketable degrees like mine had real trouble getting a job. If you wanted to get married and have kids, forget it-- unless you were willing to let the government raise them.

He was a micromanaging, sniveling dirtbag who actually made Woodrow Wilson look positively visionary by comparison.

But even his level of official corruption didn't rise to anywhere near the level we have now.
