Republican donor expected to shell out $10 million to Gingrich super PAC

Washington (CNN) - In a move that could again dramatically shake up the Republican primary race, billionaire and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson is expected to donate an additional $10 million to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, a source with knowledge of the donation told CNN.

That contribution is expected soon, before the end of the month, the source said. The timing is important because Gingirch, whose campaign has been lagging, is hoping to do well in several of the upcoming Super Tuesday states that vote on March 6 to boost his effort. His allies will need that money to be in a position to help. Because ten states go to the polls on that one day, money is key in order to do well.

Such a large gift will give Winning Our Future a major financial shot in the arm and will help it narrow the financial disparity it has with the super PACs supporting Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Both of those groups are up with major TV ad buys while Winning Our Future is up with several radio ad campaigns.

Adelson, a Nevada casino mogul, and his extended family have already given $11 million to that PAC.

What’s interesting is that Adelson’s second choice for the nomination is Romney. That is an odd bird. Most people pick Rick Newt or Newt Rick.

The ads Newt’s PAC have been producing have been great. Love the new one on the radio mentioning Dole and McCain and then hearing car crashes.

From what I understand, Adelson does not like Santorum's position on online gambling. That would make more sense of Romney as his #2 choice.

Not necessarily. Some reports say that this money is meant to take out Santorum and help Romney. Romney doesn’t have to attack Santorum if Newt’s PAC does it for him. Some believe a smear campaign against Santorum like the one he launched against Newt will backfire. Plus, many think Santorum is going to be Romney’s VP so Romney doesn’t want to attack him. I don’t know if there is any truth to these reports.

I think Romney/Santorum is a LOSING ticket! If Romney wins, Romney/Rubio is the way to go, or Romney/Perry.

The adds attack the problem the RNC. Most people who are in the anti Romney group will relate to the message IMO.

They have isolated the target very well. Two birds with one stone.

Santorum’s backer, Freiss (sp?) was on Gretta last week and made the same comment; that he would like to see Romney in the VeeP slot if Rick wins the nomination. The GOP-E covers all its bases.

(To quote the lyrics in Paul Simon's “Mrs Robinson:” “Laugh about it, shout about it; when you've got to choose; any way you look at it; you lose!”)

My first thought would be to carpet bomb Romney to hell like he has been doing to Newt all along. On second thought that might be not that be counterproductive.

It’s a pretty safe bet that Newt won’t be spending Adelson’s money on anti-Santorum ads. He hasn’t run any yet, despite the fact that Santorum & his PAC have run ads attacking Newt.

Romney's PACs have already begun the carpet bombing of Santorum. They began on FOX a few days ago if you didn't notice. Plus Romney just claimed the most negative ad he's seen so far is the Santorum paint baller ad against him. So if they're in cahoots, it's a devilishly clever plot.
