I don't think Rick wants to be the star of the show. And he certainly doesn't want to be forced to go one on one against Romney for the majority of the debate (which has been the way these things have gone).

I think he was satisfied being the Yorkie in a sweater vest yapping from the sidelines.

He will try and slide through the next debate, but I expect him to duck and cover the majority of the rest of the way.
