"Retreating German forces dynamited most of the bunkers of Hitler's Wolf's Lair in November 1944"

So where's the jacuzzi, steam room, pool and room service ???? What's a lair without a mint on my pillow ????

90,000 pounds for a lousy 13 hectares? You know how hard it is to pull down that kind of pennyfarthing per year? And I want many more sq.rods and a height of at least 20 cubits for that kind of quid.

Always thought Hitler's Wolfs Lair was somewhere in southern Germany ... not to be confused with Eagles Nest in Bavaria. Since the article indicated it's in Poland I did a Google Earth and it turns out it's located in north east Poland. Interesting.

My dad, in the US Army’s 20th Armored Division, brought home a rock from the fireplace of the Eagle’s Nest in Bertchesgaden.

Wasn’t Wolf’s Lair part of the Walkyrie story?

“Wasn’t Wolf’s Lair part of the Walkyrie story?”

Yes. See the second from last paragraph in the posted article.

“The Wolf’s Lair was also the scene of the July 1944 assassination attempt when a bomb concealed in a briefcase by Count Claus von Stauffenberg just failed to kill Hitler during a staff meeting.”

Count Claus von Stauffenberg, played by Tom Cruise.

Hitler's Wolf's Lair (Wolfsschanze) was actually located in East Prussia, once an ancient part of Germany but now located partially in Poland.

Thanks to Stalin and the Yalta Conference. With the consent of FDR, he ripped off the eastern 25 percent of Poland for the USSR, and gave an approximately equal area of eastern Germany to Poland.

Strait line distance Hitler's Wolfs Lair is about 340 miles from Berlin. In the movie Valkyrie Tom Cruise (playing Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg) returns to Berlin immediately after the assassination attempt on Hitler, believing he is dead. Getting to the air strip and back to Berlin probably took something in the vicinity of at least three hours. Easily enough time for Hitler's henchmen to contact Berlin and inform military authorities Hitler had survived the assassination attempt.

after the war, Poland was moved westwards by many miles — it lost it’s eastern territories (Kresy) which are now western Ukraine and Belarus (places like Lwow, Pinsk etc. were Polish) and was given Germanic lands so that the border between Poland and Germany became the Oder-Neisse river stretch
