Gingrich Sees High Stakes in Michigan [Suggests Whoever Loses Home State Will Drop Out!]

EBRUARY 19, 2012 Gingrich Sees High Stakes in Michigan

By Devlin Barrett

Newt Gingrich sought to raise the stakes in the upcoming Michigan Republican primary, saying that if native son Mitt Romney can’t win there, he will have a difficult time justifying his continued candidacy.

Mr. Gingrich told “Fox News Sunday” that if Mr. Romney loses Feb. 28 in the state where he grew up, “I don’t see what he says the next morning to his donors to stay in the race.’’

Michigan was once thought to be a lock for Mr. Romney, owing to his family ties there. Mr. Romney grew up in the Detroit area, and his father was a popular governor in the 1960’s. According to a Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is leading Mr. Romney by six percentage points.

Mr. Gingrich, a former House speaker from Georgia, said home turf pressure applies to each of the three candidates.

“If any of the three of us lose our home state — if Santorum loses Pennsylvania, if Romney loses Michigan, or I lose Georgia — you have I think a very very badly leaking candidacy,’’ the former House speaker said.

The hard-fought GOP primary has prompted questions about whether there is a danger the eventual winner will be too bruised to successfully challenge President Barack Obama in the general election.

The 60's were a long time ago.

Had Willard not been a integral part of MA Care, he'd be in much better shape.

Funny how the media hasn’t bothered to show Mitt’s bizarre speech from Michigan. This man is a true loon talking about our beautiful greenish brown grass and trees of the perfect height.

My best guess is that none of then will drop out if they don’t win their own state. LOL

That is what excuses are for.

While I don’t see any indication that Santorum will lose PA it would be kind of funny if all of them lost their home states.

Good move on Newt’s part to ramp up the pressure on Romney.

As long as it doesn’t backfire on Newt.

By the same reasoning that Willard’s home state is Michigan (he was born there), Rick’s home state is Virginia, and Newt Gingrich’s and Ron Paul’s home states are both Pennsylvania. I think only Willard has a shot at winning his home state.

Interesting factoids.

Newt Gingrich was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but eventually his family moved to Georgia. He now lives in Virginia.

Rick Santorum was born in Virginia, and then lived in West Virginia before his family moved to Pennsylvania, where he still lives.

So Newt was born in Pennsylvania and now lives in Virginia, and Rick was born in Virginia and now lives in Pennsylvania.

Neither Rick nor Newt will win Virginia of course, because they aren’t on the ballot.

I presume Newt will win Georgia, his longtime home state, and Santorum will win Pennsylvania.

And hopefully, Mitt will lose Michigan outright, and not get a plurality win because of a aplit conservative vote.
