The U.S. military is researching ways for its troops can use their minds to remotely control androids who will take human soldiers' place on the battlefield. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), the Pentagon's hi-tech research arm, has earmarked $7million for research into the project, nicknamed Avatar. In the James Cameron movie, set far in the future, human soldiers use mind control to inhabit the bodies of human alien hybrids as they carry out a war against the inhabitants of a distant world.
According to the Darpa's 2013 budget: 'The Avatar program will develop interfaces and algorithms to enable a soldier to effectively partner with a semi-autonomous bi-pedal machine and allow it to act as the soldier’s surrogate.'

The Jetsons fantasy never happened..
I been working in computers since the sixtys..
They work exactly the same way.. they did then..
But storage media did change a bunch producing more options..
And storage is due to change much more soon..
Computers didnt and still don’t think.. even tho it seems like they do..
“Radio controlled” military suits/devices/drones may happen tho..

You are correct.Ususally the true budgets are not disclosed.This is a DARPA project so its classified. They were handing us the clean version of it
DARPA has a very good history of innovation and overcoming technical challenges. Its been around since 1958.

I hope the soldiers can keep their robots under control.
If the bots get out of control, soon the’ll be robot history month, reparations (40 gigabyges and a free backup, etc). The country just cannot afford it at this time. :)
I’ll be for it when they can find a way of projecting intelligence into the brains of our admirals and generals.
