With his blonde pigtails and purple tutu, Zach Avery, now five, has been living as a girl for more than a year - after he first refused to live as a boy when he turned three. Little Zach was just three when he began refusing to live as a boy, instead choosing to wear pink dresses and ribbons in his long, blonde hair - because he has Gender Identity Disorder (GID). And the primary school he attends in Essex has even changed the kids' toilets to gender-neutral Unisex in support of Zach since his official diagnosis last year, aged four. Zach is one of the youngest in Britain ever to be diagnosed with GID - meaning he feels like he's a girl trapped in a boy's body. Mum Theresa Avery, 32, said Zach used to be a 'normal' little boy who loved Thomas the Tank Engine, but suddenly at the end of 2010, he decided he wanted to live as a girl.

I wonder what pressures at home made this a more attractive “choice” for him?
And what the hell is a five year old deciding for himself on just about ANYTHING anyway?
If my five year old boy wanted to wear dresses I would say “When you buy them you can wear them.”
More a case of parental insanity disorder. A story both tragic and revolting.
But, if he wanted to play with matches at age 3, THAT would be wrong, right?
They refer to this as a “disorder”. How unprogressive of them.

Yes, he “decided” to live as a girl...just as, if given the choice, he would decide to have ice cream for dinner or not pick up his toys.
This feel-good PC crap is getting out of hand.
Soon it will be “child abuse” if you dress your five-year-old in a manner not pleasing to them. And the school officials WILL find out.
Absolutely disgusting. Liberals/Progressives have made such impressive inroads into culture that I fear we'll never turn them back. Not in my future, not in that of my children. Society is doomed to deal with this perversion ad infinitum.
A five year old’s brain is still growing LITERALLY. Humans are the few species if not only, where this happens.
These parents should have the child taken from them.

How is this not felony child abuse??
Would love to discuss with the liberals a few things about this:
1. How can this kid declare at age 3 that he’s the wrong sex? He is a child.
2. As someone mentioned, if a 3 year old decides he wants to play with matches, is that ok? How can we allow a 3 year old to make the decision?
3. Related to that, can’t we all agree that this trans-whatever in “LGBT” is something that should be limited to consenting adults? If this kid is an adult and has these same issues, maybe he’s got something to talk about with his mental health professional. But are we really wanting to normalize this among kids?????
4. Is society the real villian here, in that, society forces us all into restrictive male and female identity? Think about it. Even if you get into the “gay” issues, everyone is still either a male or a female. So do liberals think the entire society needs an overhaul to accomodate children who declare they are really the opposite sex?
I have lots of other questions too, but really wonder what the liberal take on this sort of thing is. How liberal does society have to be at increasingly bizarre behavior???
So if someone is a schizophrenic they should be encouraged to act out their delusions?

The parents are the ones who need a shrink.
This mother is enabling her son. There’s no way a little boy can declare he’s a girl, and have the world around him accomodate the fantasy, without enabling from adults, such as the mother and people at school.
Some things are not black and white, but grey.
This one is very clear and not grey. It’s child abuse, neglect, endangerment, however you want to look at it.
I knew one teenager in my high school who was raised as a girl just like this case. he killed himself in high school over it.
