Michigan lawmakers worry about Mitt Romney

Michigan lawmakers who have endorsed Mitt Romney are worried about his prospects in the state with only one week to go before the critical primary there.

Polling shows a tight race in Michigan, despite the fact Romney was born and raised there and his dad was a former Michigan governor. “I think Romney is going to do a good job. Will he do enough to win as strong as he needs to in Michigan? It remains to be seen,” said Michigan GOP Rep. Tim Walberg, who resides in the southeastern 7th District.

Concern among Romney’s Capitol Hill backers hasn’t yet risen to the level of all-out panic. Romney is still the favorite to win in a state he captured four years ago, his backers insist. But there exists a worry that a narrow Romney win in his native state would only raise concerns about his viability in the 2012 contest.

The problem, the members said, is simple: Romney has failed to stir the passions of the Republican faithful.

“There’s obviously an element out there looking for an alternative,” said GOP Rep. Bill Huizenga, a former state representative whose district encompasses part of western Michigan. Rep. Dan Benishek, a freshman from the socially conservative Upper Peninsula, was more direct in assessing the challenge Romney faces.

“I wish he would be more passionate,” said Benishek, a former Herman Cain supporter who switched to Romney after Cain dropped out. “That’s always been my wish about Mitt.

Or, as June Cleaver used to say, “Ward, I’m worried about the Beaver.”

I was a little upset to learn today that my rep. McCotter is a Romney supporter.

Walberg’s my rep. He’s backing him too. Surprised me and not in a good way.

Looks like Republicans are screwed in 2012 with no one able to carry our banner. We are going to have to learn to compromise and trust at least far enough to hold onto the house.

Newt can’t win, and odds are against even Mitt a this point. Santorim never had much of a shot, and nobody else has yet emerged with the resources & message nessary to take on Obama and his backers.

Resources are the big issue here, not just anyone can do this. Obama has spent the last 2 years funneling our Federal Tax & debt dollars into the hands of his supporters. He has a massive machine, and a even more massive base of slave vote dependence.

To even compete with that we will need a massive machine of our own, and brad enough appeal & passion to convince some of his welfare slaves to attempt to escape.

321...

Points very well taken.

Mitt will never get that guy in Iowa in the rain, soaked with the C4P shirt on...

That guy? He is us, we can see Mitt is not Conservative.

But we could have gotten very passionate if Sarah threw her hat in the Ring. We we passionate about her because she was a Passionate Conservative, not some Carpetbagger trying to appeal to everyone, we can see though that crap, to all those you mentioned it is all about process and vaniety nothing about the core...

I’ve seen Romney be passionate. Unfortunately, it was when he was running for Senator and Governor of MA and defending his liberalism.

Because that's where his passion is!

Remember when asked about his conservative accomplishments - he said his five kids and marriage. Why he isn't laughed off the debate/this campaign, I'll never know. What a farce!
