Can Rick Santorum win the Republican nomination? Sure. Hes leading in the polls nationally and in important states and hes doing so without so much as a campaign headquarters. Imagine what might happen if Santorum pulls off a few more stunning upsets.

There seems to be a notion in political circles that Mitt Romney can just stay the course and go all the way to the convention in Tampa, but staying the course likely wont be good enough.
-SNIP-
Republican voters would be eminently mistaken to believe that. As things stand right now, Rick Santorum cant win the presidency and Mitt Romney can.
-SNIP-
No, Santorums problem is forgive the technical graduate-school political-science terminology here that hes a sourpuss, and sourpusses dont get elected president.
The former Pennsylvania senator looks like he swallowed a lemon and he acts like America is the lemon he swallowed.
The most telling quote of his presidential run was this one last week in South Dakota: I don't think God will continue to bless America if we continue to kill 1.2 million children every year.
These are not lightly chosen words and Santorum doesnt take them lightly, and that is to his credit. He believes abortion is murder, and therefore that mass murder is taking place in the United States and that a country whose legal code condones mass murder will be judged for its sin the way Abraham Lincoln suggested in his second inaugural address that the Civil War was Gods judgment on America for the sin of slavery.
-SNIP-
There is no way that a man who expresses such a dark view of the American national character can win the presidency.

Hey Jphn....these are SERIOUS times....VERY SERIOUS TIMES! If youy want stuttering Mitt trying to be funny, be my guest.
Seems like Mr. Santorum is laying it on the line. What's wrong with that? Call a spade a "spade".
Sadly Jews don;t think Abortion is MURDER.......but it is.....the WORST kind....MURDER OF THE INNOCENTS.
I supported Romney, after Hunter and Thompson left the race, as the last hope against McCain.
Romney did his cost-benefit analysis and dropped out which is yet another thing I have against him. When it mattered, he didn't have the fight in him. He has no problem trashing conservatives. When it mattered and we needed him to stand up, he flaked.
And when Obama was steamrolling congress, and we needed strong voices to speak up, Romney was silent. He didn't lead when it mattered because he isn't a leader. He didn't fight when it mattered because he isn't a fighter. He will never fight for something or someone whose name isn't Romney.
Sanctimonious would probably spend more effort herding atheists into reeducation church camps than addressing fiscal problems (he is no fiscal conservative).
He may, however, try to hasten Armageddon.
Mitt, Podhoretz’s guy always has that smile like a used car salesman.
Once he ropes you in, the car ain’t out of the lot before you know you got a lemon.
When gas hits the predicted $5/gal. this summer, the majority of drivers will be “sourpusses.” In fact, I can’t think of anything in the nation’s current situation that is a cause for Podhoretz’s smiley face. Someone should check his medications.
It is unfair to group all Jews together on this one. As they have been around thousands of years longer that Christians, the diversity of opinion is like comparing Mormons to Episcopalians to Quakers to Mennonites to Catholics to Jehova's Witnesses to Baptists. There is no Vatican for Jews. The Romans saw to that in 70AD.
“There is no way that a man who expresses such a dark view of the American national character can win the presidency.”
Beg to differ. It happened in 2008.
He may, however, try to hasten Armageddon.
I realize that you think you're being clever, but can you give an example of what makes you think Santorum a Santorum presidency would be any more focused on Social Conservativism than a Gingrich one? Their rhetoric sound pretty similiar to me.
Modest predictions re: Mitt.
If he wins the nomination, he won’t select Marco Rubio as a running mate.
Reasons: 1. He’s not smart enough, tactically speaking.
2. Rubio’s politics aren’t his.
3. The GOP establishment has probably already fingered a rich, white, male, somewhat obscure, and completely bland.
If Mitt loses the nomination, he will refuse to support the nominee, just the way Castle did after losing the primary to Christine O’Donnell.
Mitt’s just a rich guy who wants to be President, with little to offer the party, or in the way of solid, consistent principles.
Not quite sure what it has to do with the thread, but it's OK to lump them together, Jews don't believe abortion is murder. It's a severe transgression against life, but not only not murder, but required to save a mothers life. You know FR presidio9, if people agree on policy, it's important to attempt to divide them.
Tell it to Jimmuh Cahtuh.
To this day, I'm really not sure which political party he was thinking they'd represent.
That about sums it up.
Well, he’s from NY, and that’s how the three non-leftists here see things. I was very disappointed that Rudy wasn’t our candidate. He was a sensationally great mayor.
Mr. Podhoretz is entitled to his opinion, but I think he is dead wrong.
Santorum and his family have great appeal. It is really nice to see a good husband and father, with no shame or scandal attached to his name, running for the Republican nomination.
BTW, cutting off your arm isn't murder either. Let me know what states allow you to do a voluntary amputation. There are none. This is a stupid arguement, which is only divisive.
