Santorum supported the RINO pro-abortion Arlen Specter and sold pro-life conservative Pat Toomey down the river; Specter’s vote gave us Obama care. PA conservatives were disillusioned by this and stayed home. That is the real reason he lost. We will not forget.

And the conservative base's lack of enthusiasm for Rick is somehow supposed to change just because he is for now anyway the candidate du jour?

You forgot to mention Rick's price, which Specter did honor, Justices Roberts and Alito! A mere 40% of the votes that (I pray) will overturn Obamacare, 60% if you give Arlen credit for earlier enabling Justice Thomas. Against 1.6% of the votes cast for it in the Senate. And as for Arlen being the final vote needed to pass it I'm far from certain Olympia Snow wouldn't have flipped if necessary to get it through. If Justice Kennedy will just come through I'd say Rick's bargain was a good one regarding Obamacare. If he doesn't I guess you'll just have to blame the whole thing on Reagan for appointing the last Supreme Court vote needed to let it ride.

Had Toomey been nominated and lost we'd have had neither Roberts nor Alito, we'd have had two recordless RINO wimps. Had Toomey been nominated and won - a less sure win than Specter - he wouldn't have chaired the Judiciary committee, one of the other RINO squishes would have and probably wouldn't have gotten, at least, Alito through. It may be the only thing he was good for, but Arlen was capable, when motivated, of getting tough picks through the committee and he paid Rick's price. Specter's pro-abort friends should disown him.

It was Ben Nelson and the “Cornhusker Kickback” that gave us Obamacare. His was the last vote. His was the capitulation.
