Poll: Christie is top choice at 'brokered' convention

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is the top choice of Republicans if the party nominates its presidential candidate at a "brokered" convention this summer, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday.

Mr. Christie is favored by 32 percent of Republicans, followed by former Govs. Sarah Palin of Alaska and Jeb Bush of Florida with 20 percent each, the poll found. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is fourth at 15 percent.

Some conservatives are contemplating a so-called brokered Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., in August, in which none of the current candidates would have gained enough delegates to win the nomination and the party delegates would be free to nominate someone not in the primary race. Respondents in the Quinnipiac poll were asked to choose a candidate who's not in the current field. Mr. Christie has endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The poll showed that 48 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters believe it would be bad for the party to engage in a brokered convention; 37 percent disagreed.

Did you hear that? That was the sound of the wind being knocked out of Little Ricky’s sails.

I wonder if a brokered convention can really happen, or is it wishful thinking.

Christie would be a terrible President. He’s abrasive and controlling, and he has a fondness for perks.

I can see Palin winning the nod in a brokered convention.

Agreed. Christie is an awesome governor. Jobs are coming back, taxes are going down, he’s crushing the unions and the press. I don’t want him to run for national office because he is the only one that can fix Joisey.

And I want to make sure that we don’t have an abundance of guns out there.

Guns purchased by law-abiding citizens usually stay with law-abiding citizens. Why deprive them of the right to protect themselves?

Chris Christie does not understand that simple fact. People have a God given right to protect themselves and their families.

Newt can do it far better as he’s already done it for the country and not just one state. Christie stays in Jersey so he can have his required little outbursts ever now and then as he feels the need to stay relevant.

Notice it’s always an exaggeration when someone wants to make a point. 100% perfection. Wonder why the truth isn’t enough. And why would they push a RINO when we have a conservative, ready and more than capable of leading our country.

I am not one to threaten to abandon my Party

Just see it as not having any allegiance to a party but to our country first and foremost. The GOP E doesn't get that. They think it's about them/their power.

she would not beat ayatollah obama in a national election...

What is it you think that makes barry so special he is undefeatable? Is it his handy teleprompter that keeps him on track or his great record?

You people striving for 100% perfection are going to end up with another four of obama.

Why, you think barry is 98% perfection?

Again, this thread is in regard to a brokered convention. For the primary I’m going with Gingrich because my candidate, Rick Perry supported him. If we go to a brokered convention, I support Christie since the backroom establishment will pick the candidate anyway.

I bet 32% of Republicans have never even HEARD Christie.

Besides, no one from New Jersey should be elected to federal office. It’ll just be a constant reminder that that horrible place even exists.
