A man shot and wounded by Oakland police over the weekend is a relative of Oscar Grant, the BART passenger killed by a police officer in 2009, and was unarmed when he was shot in the back, his attorney said today.
Tony Jones, 24, was shot once in the back by an Oakland officer on the 2000 block of 62nd Avenue in East Oakland about 11:45 p.m. Sunday after he ran from a van that police had stopped, according to police and Jones' attorney, Waukeen McCoy. Jones is being treated at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
Police have said Jones was armed with a gun, but McCoy said that was not true. Jones client ran because he saw a police car behind him and "thought they were coming up too close to him," McCoy said.
Police previously said that a gun was found at the scene. The officer who shot Jones has not been identified.

being shot in the back by cops?...
I’m sure he had a gun right up until the cops shot him, then he threw it away, or asked for his attorney to lie about it.
“Jones client ran because he saw a police car behind him and “thought they were coming up too close to him.”

Certainly a legitimate reason to run from the cops......for a 6 year old.
What does your speculations have to do with him being shot in the back while running away?
What exactly do you think police ARE? Summary executioners?
Waukeen? Is that Ebonics for Joaquin?
The real McCoy!
I am saying there is more to this story than told. I have my opinions and speculations just like everyone else.
When I was a kid back in the 60s it was generally understood that if you ran from a cop you might well get shot in the back. People were less likely to run from police once they heard, “Stop or I’ll shoot!”
