Roger Simpson said he looked down the road and saw a little girl running outside her home but didn't give it another thought. Police, however, said the man witnessed a murder in progress.

Authorities say 9-year-old Savannah Hardin died after being forced to run for three hours as punishment for having lied to her grandmother about eating candy bars. Severely dehydrated, the girl had a seizure and died days later. Now, her grandmother and stepmother who police say meted out the punishment were taken to jail Wednesday and face murder charges.

Witnesses told deputies Savannah was told to run and not allowed to stop for three hours on Friday, an Etowah County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said. The girl's stepmother, 27-year-old Jessica Mae Hardin, called police at 6:45 p.m., telling them Savannah was having a seizure and was unresponsive.

Running those women to death would be a fitting punishment, IMO.

Rest in peace, sweet angel!

No words can express my disbelief of such idiocy, cruelty, and depravity of some people.

Am willing to bet the step-mother and grandmother spend their days sitting on the couch eating junk food and watching Jerry Springer. They were probably PO’d at the girl because she ate a couple of candy bars they had dibs on.

Trash is trash.

I say make them run around a jogging track for 24 hours, while being chased by rabid dogs, along with that fat, slovenly cop who tazed another girl to death in Florida. (That fat fugger needs to loose about a hundred pounds. Lazy bastard.) No water, restroom breaks, or other considerations should be given to them. If they drop from exhaustion, taze them to death.

Yeah, I know it’s harsh, but F’ them.

I’m waiting for this idiot to use FLOTUS’ “Let’s Move” program as a contributing factor.

Running for 3 hours non-stop is longer than a Marathon distance:

The current world record time for men over the distance is 2 hours 3 minutes and 38 seconds, set in the Berlin Marathon by Patrick Makau of Kenya on 25 September 2011

A typical speed for women in a half-marathon is about 11 mph. A three-hour run at that speed would bring this girl to 33 miles. The full Marathon distance is shorter, at 26 miles, and the first runner (who was a soldier, not a child) died upon arrival.

Even though the girl must have ran slower, nobody at her age can take such a stress over such a long time. Trained soccer players, athletes who specialize in running, sometimes die in the field, even though the game lasts only 1.5 hours with a break for rest. Players can drink as much water as they need, and they stand or walk whenever the game allows.

“Players can drink as much water as they need,”

The poor little girl. A couple of my kids have run marathons and it’s rough, really rough unless you are well trained.

As far as water goes, we had a girl die from too much water after running The Boston Marathon.

My son is a long distance runner in high school. That’s how I know that kids are not allowed to run the 3.1 mile races until they are in the 6th grade. My son is a junior who is rearing to run a half-marathon, but his coach won’t hear about it. Running is very hard when their bodies are not developed!

My 2 didn’t really start running until their late teens.(One female, one male).

They have run The Marine Corps,The New York, and The Boston marathons. My daughter has done those triathlon thingies. :-)

Both in their 40’s now but still at it.

Good for your son starting early. One of my high school grandchildren is running now,but not long distance.

WOW! I imagine you have had a lot of fun! I love going to races and being at the finish line with a cold towel and a bottle of Nesquik! That's life for me!

I know we are getting off the subject, but did your children run in college? If so, which college did they attend?
