Santorum was part of the coup that unseated the Speaker. Newt had mentored Rick Santorum when he first arrived in the House of Rep, and was stabbed in the back by tricky Ricky. Are you sure? Santorum was not in the House after 1994 when he was first elected to the US Senate.
He has since been very disprespectful to his mentor, I will give you that: calling him "Congressman, instead of Speaker" and running attack ads, that are filled with falsehoods, etc.

He did it as a Senator. Claimed to be “the go-to guy” for the coup, until Senator Lindsey Graham popped up and called Rick a liar.
That must have been embarrassing.
