Obama Goes On Offense Over Gas Prices

By Kathleen Hennessey February 23, 2012. Reporting from Washington— President Obama tried to deflect criticism over rising gas prices, accusing Republicans of cheering bad economic news and pleading for patience from Americans frustrated by higher costs.

"It’s the easiest thing in the world make phony election-year promises about lower gas prices," Obama told a crowd at the University of Miami on Thursday. "What’s harder is to make a serious, sustained commitment to tackle a problem that may not be solved in one year or one term or even one decade."

The president dismissed his political opponents’ proposals to expand oil drilling as a "bumper sticker," while he tried to make a case for his long-term goals of increasing dependence on renewable sources. Still, he acknowledged, there is no quick fix.

"There is no silver bullet, there never has been," Obama said.

The White House's shift to offense on the issue demonstrates the potency of a data point that could undermine Obama’s increasingly upbeat economic message. As tensions over Iran rise, a gallon of regular gas has inched up to $3.61, on average, up from $3.19 a year ago. Experts see no quick drop on the horizon and say high prices could be a drag on the already slow economic recovery.

Although spikes in the cost of gasoline are rarely a direct result of U.S. policy, presidents almost always have to answer for them. Experts note there is very little the executive can do to reverse an upward trajectory, which is set by global markets. Still, presidents inevitably feel the political heat as opponents seek to capitalize on the issue.

Obama was once one of those opponents.

"There is no silver bullet, there never has been," Obama said.

Hasn't this clown been telling the gullible American sheeple that the silver bullet is to get off petroleum? Windmills on cars, coal fired cars, and everyone being made to travel on public transportation? ISn't that the RAT way - control how we can move freely about? I think Mark Levin has this admin all figured out.

“On Offense”

Offense: Obama saying “Don’t blame me! Not MY FAULT!” while his willing media sycophants nod and smile, forgetting THREE YEARS of bulls*** from 2006-2008.

The Democrat quotes blaming Bush for high gas prices are ALL OVER Youtube. All the media has to do is LOOK.

What was the price of gas when Obama was elected? It was well under $2.00.

Gingrich is right. If he is elected, the price of gas will come down. How do I know? His policy agenda tells me so. It's a good one. No other candidate has as solid a plan.

As for Obama? He's an idiot, what can I say.

re: “”What’s harder is to make a serious, sustained commitment to tackle a problem that may not be solved in one year or one term or even one decade.”

Yes, how ironic a statement. A sustained effort over the past two decades to allow and encourage the development of America’s own natural resources, particularly in gas/oil (i.e. Alaska, offshore drilling, shale oil, etc.), plus the construction of new refineries and the overhaul of existing ones would have helped our nation to make great strides in reducing our dependency on foreign supplies as well as helped to keep the price of oil/gasoline at a lower cost.

But, of course, Obama and the Democrat party have done everything in their power over the last 40 years to inhibit/obstruct the growth of America’s domestic oil production. They want to make oil and gas cost so high in order to force us into “green” energy, into mass transportation in order to reduce the freedom of movement by Americans and give greater control over that movement by the federal government.

What a lying, deceiving “you know what”. Words escape me as to the absolute “audacity” and arrogance of the enormity of his lies.

Just because the obamass has refused to do anything to bring down the price of gas doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. The obambat wants the price higher. He has said so himself!!!!

Well first he knows its too late to lower gas prices.

People will see the price everyday.

This will be the waterloo of Obama with a weak GOP field.

When they established the Department of Energy the expensive energy we're seeing was just a matter or time.
There's no need for a government department to do what the marketplace does. When you establish a vested interest you're in reality establishing a form of rationing that vested interest will use to justify itself. Whether it's the DoE, the EPA, or the Dept of Education (which is really a union lobby), once the government addresses the "need", it's no longer in the interest of the government to have things run smoothly and/or inexpensively.

0bummer ain’t completely stupid... He knows that there needs to be some appearance of economic viability associated with his tree hugging, pseudo science, alternative energy BS.
One component of that game is to push prices of petroleum based sources to the point that the sheeple begin demanding the alternatives...biodiesel, solar, wind, etc.
Add to that the groundless, election year Libtard attacks on anything that makes sense as a possible solution, and you have an exponential explosion of this silly crap that we’ve been force fed for the past 30 years...
The simple fact is that we have enormous reserves of crude oil right here in our own backyard, and tremendous stocks of natural gas.
What we don’t have among the political elites and marxist academics is the intellectual honesty to admit it and then do something about it.
We have all the technology necessary to safely and efficiently extract those resources, transport them, refine them and deliver them to end users.
What we need is effective leadership and the support of the people to make it happen.

Go NEWT!

I’m recollecting what Joe Biden said about the people “...not liking some of the decisions...” that this administration would make. Hell of an understatement there, Joe... we haven’t liked *any* of Barry’s decisions.

We need to “magnify” the effect of the high gas prices by posting some “gas pump reminders” that tell the folks that this, indeed, is 0bama’s fault.

Things like “2008: Gas $1.86. How do you like your ‘Change’”?

Obama is right. This problem cannot be solved in a year.

It has taken him 3 years to double the price, and if he is re-elected it may take him another 3 years to double it again.

After all he has a lot of things to work on. He has raised food prices and electric prices also, his agenda is not easy.Destroying a great nation like ours takes a lot of work, but he has the whole Democrat party and half the Republicans helping him.
